I’ve been debating on getting another tattoo. I have a couple. And normally it wouldn’t be an issue. But I’m also full on this weight loss transformation and am hitting the gym daily and leaving in a big ball of sweat. Would this affect a new tattoo? Should I wait. ?

I gave mine 3-4 days over a weekend with less exercise/showers. Mainly I didn't want to sweat excessively or have to shower too much, keeping it dry and moisturised was key as I am sure you know :D
I also didn't swim until it had properly scabbed and healed. But gym wise, yeah, few days to get the bulk healing going :)

    What are you getting?

I waited about a week after getting my last one.

My new one was on my inner forearm- and it was actually more tender than my back piece- so I gave it a real rest of 4 days or so until the swelling went down.

I don't sweat as much b/c I almost exclusively just lift- but I didn't want to be working out something that was literally swollen.

So I just waited till the swelling went down. I had it done Thursday night- and I think I was back in the gym on Tuesday for real for real.

My last tattoo I had to wait a few extra days because of the swelling. It was on my lower leg, quite large! I don't think the sweat will be a problem, the swelling is what you need to be cautious of.

I give it a day or so. Depending on where it is, I'll just modify movements so nothing contacts or rubs on it.

Where on your body are you getting it? That makes a difference, as you can see from the responses.

My last one was a fairly large rib piece. Got it on a Sat. and was back in the gym on Tues.

Initially keeping it dry and moisturized is the key.

I have a few tattoos all over my body, and I don't take off any running days. I have a very large back piece, one on my foot, one on my wrist, and a couple more on my back.

I'll protect it a bit, where a shirt under my sports bra and/or bandage or something. But it doesn't stop me from running the next day.

Mostly that^^ Except it was my back piece, entire upper back.

I just had a large forearm piece done a few weeks ago. I got it, then when home and continued my regular routine. It's just as lovely and bold colored as the first day I got it. I doubt it matters much. Never heard of not showering and stuff like that after getting ink. Just no chlorinated pools and sea water.

My plan always depends on the location of the tattoo. I recently got one on my calf and didn't take any days off at all.

For the part of my sleeve that was upper shoulder, I gave it a chance to heal for a few days so that my sports bra wouldn't rub against it.

Since I'm mostly running, it's abrasion/rubbing that I'm concerned with. Anything that risks that, I'll take a break.

my instructions were very clearly no swimming- but definitely to wash it- I think after the first 8 hrs. eve specifically they said wash. Who would say don't wash it? It's a wound- it needs to be cleaned!!!

I took a few days off after getting a tattoo on my forearm and avoided exercises where equipment would touch it.

I left it a week, but I'd give it as long as it takes. They cost a fortune and are on you for life, why risk it for the sake of a week or two?

I think it depends on the size. For the smaller ones on my upper thigh I could shower within 8 hours, but for my large rib piece I had to wait at least 12 hours. Probably varies a bit by each tattoo artist as well.
