help! where is my waist?

Ok really dumb question: where the hell is my waist? Maybe this will explain why I am confused...
The smallest part of my torso is well above my belly button. The smallest part measures at 32" and my belly button area measures at 36" then the stupid woman pooch thing under that measures at 38" :/
So is the smallest part above my belly button my waist? Or is it at my belly button?
