Going to a gym

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I struggle a lot with my diet, and everyone I've known who wanted to lose weight just used slimming world, which did nothing for me. I love exercise but I don't bother at home. I'd like to be able to go to a gym (I tried once but some girls were unpleasant and that was when I was a smaller size) but I have quite bad anxiety.
Has anyone else had this problem and got over it? Any tips?

You had a one-off experience. Mostly people don’t care what anyone else does or what they dress like. I was nervous but started going to group classes where I stood in the back and kind of stayed in the background. I started a weight lifting class and one woman turned around to tell me I was doing lunges wrong but I took that as constructive help, not a criticism of me. After class ended I asked the instructor to show me how to do lunges properly. That was good because I could have injured myself if I hadn’t learned that!! So put on your gym clothes, get in your car and go to your gym! You’ll eventually gain some confidence and realize you have the right to make use of the membership you paid for.

Thank you, I might start off by asking the staff what they would do if I find myself in that situation again.
