This was done for me and my family as a child and it has stuck with me my whole life.
Christmas time when I was 7 years old, my dad was dying of brain cancer. He had been battling for a year and was at home to spend the rest of his time left with my 3 siblings and mom. A bunch of people from his job gathered tons of gifts and food, someone dressed as Santa and they came to the house and gave us an amazing Christmas. Us kids climbed up in dad's hospital bed and took pics with him and Santa. No one in the room had a dry eye as he mumbled a simple "thank you" that was hard to even understand. He passed away a week later.
Every year now, my family chooses a family and gathers gifts and food to deliver to them.13 -

The day after I went to the same street and there he was... wearing the same light clothing in the freezing cold the first time I saw him. No coat to be seen.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I did this once for a homeless man outside of taco bell. I gave him my brand new Columbia coat and $20. My now ex husband was mad I gave him my coat and said he'd probably spend the cash on drugs. But I saw him go into taco bell, order food, and then walk down the road smiling wearing that coat. My daughters saw this and still remember it.
Both of y'all are awesome people for do what y'all did. Mr. Turnip, sorry your situation turned out as it did, just don't let one bad apple ruin your good nature. There's always going to be one bad seed.
Mrs. Avocado, glad that your situation was positive and you children were there to see what charity is all about.
I have learned to keep extra coats and blankets in my truck in the case of an emergency and have on occasion given them out. Albeit they were used coats and blankets but they were received with appreciation none-the-less.

This choked me up. Maybe I shouldn't read this thread at work.
I am glad that your family is paying it forward. God bless y'all!1 -

Yeah this isn't a story many people in my life know about. I've only looked at that Santa picture once in my life and I can't bring myself to ever again. Dad was looking away from the camera and we realized afterwards that he had gone blind and we didn't know. But the whole thing was so impactful. The simple kindness of his co-workers has stayed with me for 30 years.7 -

I can only imagine how difficult it must be looking at the photos.
Sometimes it's the small acts of kindness that impacts people the most. It seems like there has been a resurgence of such acts in the last few years. I've seen it myself from my own co-workers when I was in the hospital for an extended amount of time.0 -

I take my hat off to you all. Such heartfelt stories that make me so happy and a little emotional to read them and nearly shed a tear (I know hard for an aussie guy to admit! ). Your stories are amazing!!
Such beautiful peeps2 -
A customer that always comes through my line at my job paid for my girls and my sister to go to a local attraction. We are fairly new to the state and I've been working so hard we haven't had time to go out. So it made me cry (in a good way). No way to thank her maybe bake her my delicious N.Y. style cheesecake.1

That is so awesomely sweet of you.1 -
Walked out of Pei Wei and saw a big old drill bit laying in the parking lot. Threw it away so it wouldn't end up in a tire. Nothing ruins a day like a flat.1

I try and stop to help turtles cross the road.5

The nicest thing today...I drove a friend and her done home, an hour out of my way, so she didn't have to sit all day at the wrestling tournament while her husband coached.
I have also been known to buy people's groceries in line in front of me. Whether they don't have enough money or just randomly jump in and swipe my card. I try to do this as needed or a couple times a year.
I also took my kids to buy groceries for a "homeless" guy I saw on the corner every day in all weather, only to find out after we handed him the groceries that he was not homeless, just a panhandler. (I use to also give him money and fruit every week for months until that point) Still a lesson of giving for the kiddos.1 -
Not the nicest thing I’ve ever done, but the other day I complimented my mom on her fart that she was so proud of. She laughed, and that made me smile.3

Who is next to share the moment they made a difference in someones lives?0

I donated money to a fundraiser supporting a charity that helps poor kids and elderly people.
I also do this thing where I sneakily arrange for things to 'fall into place' so my friend and I go grocery shopping together. She has no car and the store is quite a ways away from her, so carrying huge sixpacks of water bottles + bags full of grocery home really wears her out. So we'll meat for coffee or something and I'll go "Oh, I still need to get some ingredients for tomorrow, wanna come?" and she's always grateful for the help. I think she knows I'm doing it on purpose by now though.4 -
Today while driving through roadworks i splashed a road worker with water after driving through a pot hole.
We smiled at each other...... it was pretty funny and i felt a little devious. So while shopping i bought her a iced coffee and a chocolate bar and when driving back through apologised to her and gave her the treats! Lol3 -
Wife and I were in Puerto Vallarta having dinner with my sister and her husband. A couple came in and sat down. They had just been married and drove a ways to eat at this restaurant. Tony's Hideaway. We talked to them for a bit then left them alone. It was their wedding day after all. I went to their waiter and asked if he would bring me their bill when they finished. He did and I paid it. Never did anything like that before or since, but it sure made me feel good.2
