transferring recipe from app to app question

I've used MFP in the past, but mostly use Weight Watchers. I've reached lifetime with them so it's free for me. But, I'm interested in paying more attention to macros so I would like to go back to using the MFP app.

I have many recipes in my WW app. I'm fairly sure I know the answer to this, but is there any chance I can auto copy these recipes from WW to MFP without having to manually add each ingredient?

If you have a URL (web address) that you can plug into the MFP recipe builder, it should pull in the recipe. I have had mixed success with this. Some sites seem to work better than others.

I recommend, after MFP has pulled the recipe from the app, that you read through the recipe, delete instructions (stir, mix, chop, bake) and unnecessary language, maybe change some of the ingredients to the language used for USDA-based entries in MFP, before you actually hit the button for MFP to match the ingredients. Then you need to double-check the entries, because sometimes the matching is just whacky, and most MFP entries are user-created, and not everyone is careful and accurate -- also, an MFP entry could be outdated, because the manufacturer changed the ingredients a bit, or it could be for a product in another country with the same name but different ingredients and proportions than the product in your country.

I doubt the recipe ingredient list created and saved in personal WW accounts would comply with the strict software coding requirements necessary for importing them into MFP using the MFP Recipe Importer. Though, I could be wrong.

Not all sites on the web that publish recipes bother with following the strict coding standards required for easy portability of ingredient lists between apps. MFP does not even follow the strict coding standards for users creating their own non-shareable recipes in their personal user accounts.

The Recipes that are published on the MFP Blog by MFP normally follow those strict standards and can be imported from their published URLs.

In addition, WW is notorious for scrupulously guarding their proprietary information and threatening legal action against those who run afoul of their policies. I doubt WW would allow departing members to transfer anything to a competitor.

Thanks for the input! You did give me an idea though. Rather than using the WW app, I should go to their website and try to access my recipes. It's worth a shot :-)
