New here - I have some concerns

Hello all,
I just made this account, just to see for a day or two what my diet looks like when broken down into carbs/fat/protein etc. I eat pretty healthily and usually track my calories although I'm not actively trying to lose weight, just maintaining. So I've started off by logging my breakfast and snacks so far today and I'm feeling slightly..concerned? The reason is that my diet is usually pretty high in carbs because I like to eat a lot of fruit throughout the day (usually around six pieces of fruit and also three to four servings of veggies), however until making this account I didn't really think about how exactly high the carb content of those fruits are and whether I'm eating more fruit than I should be. I was just wondering if there are any consequences of going over the carb intake that myfitnesspal calculates for you. I mean I've been eating this way for a long time and managing to stay in shape and maintain my weight while feeling pretty great - are there any drawbacks to consuming such a high number of carbs?

I guess the only downside would be if you were not getting sufficent goods fats and protein.

If you are eating a lot of fruit because you are feeling hungry perhaps swap some of it eg boiled egg, yoghurt or cottage cheese, yoghurt, small amount of nuts or avocado etc etc.

If you are maintaining and are in good health you have it figured out. Those extra fruit are not hurting you.

Do you have brittle nails? Is your hair thinning out? If not, you are getting enough protein and fats.

Yeah if it's working for you and you are fit and healthy- you're doing it right. Don't try to fix what's not broken.

@medjewel First question would be if you're guessing your fruit intake, or if you're tracking by exact weight. Here on MFP it is usually recommended that you get a good food scale and weigh everything you consume.

Thanks for this - looks like I'm not quite meeting my protein/iron targets so I think I will swap out some of my snacks for nuts etc. as you've suggested

nuts are a poor choice as a protein source, they are mainly fat.

I think the protein recommendations are low already, and should definitely be seen as a minimum intake - as already pointed out, nuts aren't a great protein source, you may be better off with some yoghurt/meat/eggs/fish, or higher protein plant based options if you don't consume those animal products

Hmm..thanks for the advice. I may just increase the sizes of my protein sources at mealtimes in that case. I didn't realise the MFP recommended protein amount was seen as low either :#
