I've pretty much always been overweight and know I need to change things. I've been successful at weight loss in the past (lost over a hundred pounds about 4 years ago), but I always put the weight back on. I've done therapy for other issues that are certainly related to why I eat and those issues have gotten better and now it's time to work on this weight thing.
I'm not always one to reach out for help, but I do realize that I need a supportive community to be successful, so part of what I am committing to now it to read, respond, and post here daily to help me with that. So....
Last summer I was working on losing weight and dropped about 25 pounds. I was training to do a 45 mile bike ride with my wife and kids. Then in the end of September, as my last long training ride before the big one, I crashed on my bicycle and broke my collar bone. Then, about 5 weeks later, I had to have my appendix removed. I gained the weight all back. Now the shoulder is almost 100% and I need to get back to business.
Yesterday was good. Today is going well. I know that the afternoons are bad for eating (I teach, so I have limited time to eat during the day so that usually goes well). So I'm planning to work out after school each day to have me do something more productive than eat when I'm done teaching. And I'm posting this during my lunch. I plan on checking in here during my lunch period each day so that I'm focused in the middle of the day, too.
Thanks for listening. I hope to get to know all of you a little bit better. This is going to have to work.

Welcome back! It's never too late to start over. Try to pinpoint the reasons you failed previously to give yourself some insight on what to change this time. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
1. When you first reached 100lbs lost, how did you transition into Maintenance? Treating maintenance as simply the next phase of weight management is a good way to keep the pounds off. Keep doing what you were doing during weight loss, just add enough calories to bump yourself up to your TDEE. If that means continuing to calorie count and weigh yourself everyday - do it! The main reason people regain the weight is they let themselves fall back into bad habits that caused them to gain the weight in the first place. Reaching your goal weight isn't the finish line.
2. It seems like you learned that weight loss isn't just about being active - you need to stay on top of your diet. It's perfectly possible to continue losing weight while being bed-bound - you just need to adjust your calorie deficit to account for your lack of movement.
Good luck! Try to learn from your past mistakes and make this weight loss effort be the last. Break the cycle!0 -

Welcome back, and congrats on the re-commitment to yourself and your health.
I'm also a "returning from injury" boat. I was doing great on my fitness, and slowly getting closer to my goal weight, and things were going great in late 2016. Then, that December, I (pretty badly) got a tib/fib pilon fracture. The following year was a total of 4 surgeries, and an attempt to keep my leg attached to my body. Late November my leg was finally to a point where I could return to the gym (with some restrictions dictated by my leg). Now, the workouts are back to being fairly intense, and my leg is holding up, although it's still a long road ahead before it gets to its "new normal."
While being laid up I put back on most of the weight I had lost the previous year, so now I'm back to doing a slow recomp. It's not the fastest way to lose weight by any stretch, but fitness is way more important to me than the extra 25 pounds, so I'm keeping my primary focus on that. So far, so good!3 -
Welcome back!
This is a good reminder that we are not always going to be able to rely on the offset of physical activity and need to learn to eat within budget regardless.
Weight as an output of behavior. You've identified afternoons as a weak point for you. Implement risk mitigators to offset this. Our habits are behaviors which have become instinctual. You cannot simply stop a habit - hence why so many fail at quitting smoking, dieting, etc. You need to identify "bad" habits and replace these with "good" habits. This is a long process, so only tackle one habit at a time and really take time to analyse yourself.
