So I’m really confused.. I’m eating 1200 cals a day, maybe 100 cals over and sometimes not even that much. I’m working out by running, elliptical trainer etc, but the scales aren’t moving now? Last week the scale jumped up 4lbs and now just won’t shift whatsoever????

Try to look to see if your measuring your food correctly and perhaps buy a food scale if you don't have one. Is 1200 calories too low for you?1

I have a food scale, that’s how I know I’m not really overeating - like I said sometimes I might go over by about 100 cals but that’s a rather rare occurrence. Most of the time I really have to work hard to eat that much since my job is very limiting with lunch breaks!
1200 seems to be the suggested amount by most. My resting meta is about 1700 (apparently, all calculated online so). I convinced myself it was water weight but it’s been a week and no improvements on what the scale is saying2 -
What is your height ? what is your starting weight ? it depends on how much you have to lose to be in healthy weight.0

Water weight from starting exercising or your period perhaps?
Keep doing what you're doing and the scales will catch up. But you might want to consider whether you need to eat so little to lose? If you start on 1200 cals you have nowhere to go!!3 -

I’m 5ft 5 inches, and my starting weight was 15stone 3 (213lbs.) definitely need the weight loss, and since starting I lost 12lbs, but the scale jumped up and has been the same for about a week!TavistockToad wrote: »Water weight from starting exercising or your period perhaps?

1200 is what has been suggested since starting, so I’ve kinda just stuck to that with no questions asked. It started off really well, like I said I lost 12lbs and then it all just jumped back up and refuses to shift. I’ve even upped my water intake hoping that would help but alas, the scale is not in my favour.0 -
If it's only been a week since you lost don't worry weight loss isn't linear some weeks you will lose others you won't weight fluctuations are normal I ate some ice cream and "put on 4lbs" overnight it was gone in a few days maybe look at downloading a weight trending app that works out your average trend rather than what the scale says3

Seems that you hit a plateau: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/weight-loss-plateau/art-20044615. In any case, 1 week is really not enough to make conclusions. It could be you're eating more salt and that causes water weight, of your TOM is approaching... Or simply that your body composition is changing (muscle weigh more than fat).
You can calculate your macros on IIFYM, choose 15% weight loss and sedentary lifestyle with no workouts. That will give you an idea about what your daily intake should be.
It is frustrating to see a plateau after rapid drop (I'm in exactly same boat myself), but don't lose mojo, you'll get there!8 -

Over 50% of the body is made up of water and generally speaking water weighs a lot. When you exercise this is lost through sweat and in your sleep through respiration. Make sure you weigh yourself at the same time (roughly) each day - for example first thing in the morning before breakfast as your weight will change throughout the day.
Also don't worry too much about the scales as said above weight loss is not linear. Sometimes the body will react to drastic changes in weight loss and for example burn fat more slowly if it feels there are not enough nutrients being taken in (essentially it is trying to avoid starvation mode by holding onto fat if you're not getting enough food in). BUT the weight will shift if you are in a calorie deficit. This might be 2 pounds one week and 4 the next but it will go - just give it time and fit it everything you eat and do into your daily routine.1 -
Thanks for all the replies, feeling a lot better about it after moping around and punishing myself! You’ve all been stars, and all your advice has been helpful and informative ☺️2

Weightloss isn’t linear. Wait another 3 weeks before you judge. That first 12 was mostly water. 1-2lbs a week is typical.0
