Hi I’m losing weight calorie counting and on keto the reason I do keto as carbs flare up my ibs I can’t eat much fruit and veg or I can’t leave the house as needing the bathroom constantly so keto surprises my appetite as I can’t eat lots low calorie fruit and veg to help with hunger.
I sadly now have ibs d back again and I’m wondering if it Fat I have been okay for months though so not sure why it’s flared up again? I’m not even eating tons fat it was 80 grams yesterday much lower than keto recommends.

If I stop keto and just count calories I’ll be hungry as I can’t have much fruit and veg - I also love keto it fits in with my lifestyle

Any other ibs d suffers have had this issue and what did you do as I need to be able to go out the house and can’t atm much

Thanks

Why do you think you need to swing in the total.opposite way? Eat what you like.

Why did you delete what you originally said ?

Are you sure "carbs" is what causes problems? IBS is pretty individual and complicated, you have to figure out exactly what it is YOU react to, by trial and error. And are you sure your appetite needs suppressing? Are you eating enough, balanced, varied and regularly?

To much fat, can trigger my IBS, but unfortunately I can not offer any other help, as I just have to limit my fat intake (But make sure I get the minimum recommended, for other health reasons). Need to keep my fat intake lower any way, as advised by cardiologist. But I don't have a problem with carbs, so eat plenty of fruit and veg to help fill me up.

The only other advise I can think of is to try playing with your macro ratio, until you find a balance that suits you. Sorry I can't offer any more advice, but I understand what your going through.

As kommodevaran says I just had to do process of elimination and it seems different for everyone and it's random as all hell, coffee, bananas, sticky Thai rice, cheap microwave meals especially pasta and cold pasta (but totally fine with pasta I make myself from dry or fresh) the nut clusters from certain cereal, all bran or bran flakes. If I have a huge portion of vegetables I sometimes have problems (like if I've made a veggie curry). I guess alot of these are quite carby but I still eat a mostly carb heavy diet and the symptoms are mostly under control.

It was an extremely slow process to find my triggers, some were very hard to identify as they were usually mixed with other foods and not immediate reactions, I doubt I've found them all but if you're getting symptoms again I suspect the keto isn't working (I personally got very poorly on Atkins 15 years ago and had to stop after only a few days). I feel you as I had/have A type x

Edit* I also used to get triggered from allowing myself to get too hungry, I usually don't eat below 1500 (3-4pm is usually my worst time of day) and of course stress is a huge factor.

Yes I’ve done ‘dieting’ 30 years and to years yoyoing as hungry and keto I don’t yoyo on
Yes I know ibs is complex and I have seen Doctors done tests and FODMAP I’m just disappointed it’s flared up again
    Thankyou for your help

Well keto recommends 100+ grams healthy fats a day so I will do as you said okay around with it all thanks :)

Because of your serious medical issues my advice would be for you to consult your doctor.

Let your dr examine you, do some blood tests, and perhaps even a cat scan or other imagery or gi procedure. There are a number of things that could be going on.

You need a Dr or some specialist for this , not seek answers from online strangers. And it is not wise with your medical history to diagnose yourself. Hugs

Did your dr diagnose you were having a flare. Didn't you write that you think it may be a flare?
How do you know you are not dealing with a gastrointestinal infection, diverticulitis, a medication side effect, etc. I won't mention some more serious issues that could be going on.

You have a serious medical issue possibly flaring up, so common sense is to talk to your medical team. Hopefully whatever it is , you can catch it early enough so you will feel better sooner.

I do hope this post helps. It sucks to be chronically ill. You have my sympathy. Please take care. Hugs.

If you're not eating carbs, and you're only eating 100 g of fat, what exactly are you eating?

Also, you can eat carbs and still not eat fruit and veggies. You don't have to cut out all carbs just because some fruit or veg irritates your bowels.

How successful were you in following the Low FODMAP diet? Were you using the Monash University app?

On dietary fat: Fat is hard on your digestive system. Which is why you do not want to go overboard on eating fats in your diet.

For example: pancreatis can be triggered by too much fat in your diet.
Fats in excess can lead to issues like heartburn, slowed down digestion, liver issues, metabolic syndrome.

We need dietary fat, but not in excess and certainly not in the form of trans fats. Fats help your eyes make tears, help to make antibodies, help to make hormones. But going overboard eating too much fat, can make us very unhealthy. Again, it is a balance.

Of course I am high fat isn’t 100+ grams keto is mainly very low carbing high fat doesn’t take your appetite away that’s low carbs

Why are some people so angry on here ?

I don't think they are so much as angry as maybe they care about what is happening to you and maybe frustrated that you are not really listening to their well meaning advice.

Yes I’ve done FODMAP and been hospital had tests etc they said my bowels are very very sensitive to food and sadly it’s a case of I can’t eat much of anything so it triggers a flare up if I do that’s why keto for me is best as your not hungry

Also yoyo dieting has messed my body up so I can’t eat much or I won’t lose weight even doing loads exercise

I think I’ll cut the fat right down if that doesn’t work I don’t know probably go back to Doctors as I work from home but need to find a job out the home and start cycling atm I can’t go out far as ibs is chronic

    Thankyou :)

Have you or haven't you tried FODMAP?

I only ask because, although you say above you have, in your other thread you say you haven't, you've just researched it.

It may help others to give you better directed advice if they know for sure :)
