Hi,

I love a coffee or two though out the day. I just have it with milk. Obviously you hear black coffee suppresses your appetite but alot of diets cut caffeine. Any thoughts appreciated.

The only affect coffee will have on you losing weight is the calories of what you put in it, so log it.

I think most diets that cut caffeine are intended to determine food allergies or diagnose "alternative health" conditions. I'd guess if a weight loss diet cut caffeine, it would be assuming you were drinking a fancy coffee drink with a ton of calories. I've never heard of straight up coffee being a weight loss issue.

I drink coffee or tea daily, sometimes with milk :drinker:

    K. Maybe she didn't do this, but she's far from innocent. Just see what kinds of ads she gets..

Don't know why that would be...caffeine has nothing to do with your weight...

Coffee is chock full of antioxidants...

Ditto, except I don't drink mine black. The world isn't ready for me without coffee in the morning.

OMG - what diet cuts caffeine? That's just unconscionable! If a diet can't allow for unsweetened iced tea, hot teas, and black coffee then you need to look for a different diet!

I began drinking coffee in the Army, and it was really awful, but after drinking hundreds of gallons of it over the years, I actually grew to like it. I still enjoy it black and ultra-strong. I wonder if jail coffee is similar? Not that I plan on finding out...

That depends on the diet - as you say, a lot of diets cut caffeine. Don't go on a diet. To lose weight, you just have to eat less.

The only reason why coffee would hinder weight loss is if you're adding things to it that exceed your calories for the day.

Black coffee is a diuretic as much as water is a diuretic. I have for many years been consuming copious amounts of black coffee each day. My weight loss efforts are connected the calories I consume and expend, not to the volume of black coffee or water I consume and discharge.

There are many things I’ve changed, but I will not change my coffee. I weigh mine! I put my cup with the coffee on the scale, press tare, and add half and half until I reach my preferred 2 oz. My coffee is 114 calories with the half and half plus 2 tsp sugar. I log it every day, and I’ve lost 37 lbs since September. Save your sanity and keep the coffee!

Me without coffee is almost like a day without sunshine. Coffee is fine. I drink my coffee black, but if you add sugar or special creamers, you might have to limit the things that you add in your coffee. It can add the calories that many people don't realize. :)

Pretty much the only effective and legal weight loss supplement is caffeine.

Other than medically dictated diets (for heartburn/reflux, heart/BP issues, elimination diets for allergy diagnosis, etc.), the only reason a "diet" should eliminate caffeine is if it insists on being one of those "fat is sin, so 'clean eating' is your penance" ones.

    JMO, naturally. ;)
