OK so I had two containers of protein powder one being the Orgain unflavored protein powder and the other one being the chocolate fudge protein powder. Well seeing the unflavored protein powder was getting low i mixed it in the other protein powder. however i didn't realize the scoop sizes were different (i kept the unflavored protein powder scoop when the majority of the protein powder i have is chocolate, which has a smaller sized scoop) so my question is should i just count the calories in the protein powder the same and hope it doesn't mess up my calorie count too much? or should i add on a extra 50 or so calories??

This happened only once? Today? I wouldn’t worry about it much. In the grand scheme of things.

I weigh my scoops of powder - it's amazing what the variation can be and it makes a difference when I am trying to meet my protein quota.

I think what he is saying is the calories per gram or per ounce are different between the two powders? Now he's mixed them together and is wondering how to record it correctly. Op, if it were me I'd just add extra calories to my entry to give yourself some wiggle room.

If the calorie info is the same for both powders, then I agree, don't go by the scoop but rather weigh it and record it accurately.

Hmm. Never thought about weighing my scoops of powder, but I can certainly see how there could be variation. Guess I need to start weighing them.

On another note, does anyone else have problems with some of the powder clumping up on the side of the blender? Suggestions?

Add liquid first? Use a spatula to nudge it down.

Usually do add the milk first. I'll try to see if pushing it down into the milk with a spatula helps. Thanks.

With the protein powder I'm currently using, a scoop is supposed to be 30g. It's actually around 40g if you fill it level to the top. It doesn't take me much longer to put my shaker bottle on the food scale, zero it and measure 30g of powder, so that's how I do it. I also measured out 10 oz. of milk, poured it in there over the powder and made a mark on the side of the shaker bottle with a sharpie, so I don't need to measure out milk anymore - just pour it until I reach the line.

As to the second question, no idea - I use a shaker bottle and get very little clumping, but the amount of clumping varies from brand to brand. It also seems to me that chocolate flavor powders are the worst offenders for clumping, it's been that way in most of the different brands I've tried.

Interesting, I have never thought about NOT weighing my scoops of protein powder.
Eyeballing it can easily have 30% difference.
That said I noticed only use it in case I don't meet my daily progress twin goal with usual food, which doesn't happen that often.

Well, I just figured a full scoop is a scoop. There are some limits to what I want to weigh. I don't, for instance weigh the bbq sauce I put on my chicken. I use a tablespoon and consider close enough.

All good suggestions. I think I will put them to use going forward.

    Wow, so many typos
This is what happens when I use my phone too late at night...

Meant daily protein goal of course, not progress twin.

Why not use your food scale to measure out the appropriate serving size rather than relying on the scoop? The serving size should be listed right on the container.

I saw this yesterday and I thought it was an effective way to show that people should avoid teaspoons, tablespoons, scoops, cups, etc., and stick to grams and ounces. On the left is a precise 32g measurement, the right is 2 spoonsful. Both measurements would have resulted in 143 calories logged, so the one on the right's logging would be wayyyyyyy off, lol.
