What are you aiming to get up to as your peak long run?

10 miles though it's entirely possible that I'd extend that to 13 if I felt really good.

Everyone recovers differently. I don't have a problem after half marathons or after my long runs. Some people do. I don't think you'll need to take a day off work unless you'll be on your feet all day.

I agree. I have only taken a day off after a race of any length if it is for travel. But I guess it depends on the type of job you have.

As far as recovery for a half, for me it depends on how hard I run it. If I am going all out, then I am running 1-1.5 minutes per mile faster than my typical long run pace. And, yes, that beats me up and usually warrants at least 2-3 days of no running or really short easy runs. Instead I do lots of yoga and walking. If I am running it easy, like a training run, then it depends on where I am in my training. Well trained, no big deal. Undertrained, probably need at least one recovery day.

This. My pace for Sunday's 10k was a full 2 minutes per mile faster than my usual pace at a similar distance. On Monday I did a shorter run than usual and I was a bit sore. Yesterday was a strength training day with no running, and today I was back to my usual run.

I've never taken the day off after a half, but I also don't have a physically demanding job.
