Muscle soreness/pain

I did about 45 minutes of cardio in the morning, and some strength training in the afternoon. But by bed time my stomach was either sore or hurting, I couldn't tell the difference. I tossed and turned. I got up, ate a little something, took a pain reliever, got an ice pack, and now I'm typing this. Why did my stomach start hurting so soon? Shouldn't it be a tomorrow thing? I might add I just started this exercise thing after only doing cardio every once in a while. I'm pretty sure I over did it, I just thought the pain would kick in after I woke up the next morning, not before I go to bed that night. Also, is there other ways to relieve muscle pain without meds, I hate taking them, because they're meds and also I have a hard time swallowing that stuff. Thanks in advance for any help.
