Running, esp downhill, and walking is painful. I may have tweaked my knee but I believe it's runner's knee. How do I fix it? Pls help

I'm no doctor, but here is my story and maybe it will help!
I recently started running intervals on the treadmill and developed what I think was runners knee. I took a break from running and stretched twice a day to let it heal. I avoided any exercise that bugged my knee. As soon as the pain was gone, about a month, I started back up running. Two minutes in, the pain came back. I repeated the rest and stretch routine for two weeks and it was gone again. Now i make sure to stretch every day. And I focus on stretching my hamstrings before I run. So far so good!

Go see a physio. I got runners knee in the lead up to my first marathon and with the proper rest and strapping and exercises (though I'm a bit sceptical that the strapping did much) I was able to complete the marathon successfully and have gone on to do more.

Whatever you do, don't just keep running on it and hope it goes away. You'll just make it worse.

First get a referral from your dr to have an orthopedist examine and screen for injuries. Then from there have the Dr give you options for a treatment plan. A plan that could involve medications, physical therapy, or hopefully not surgery.

Excercise that might be ok (please consult your dr first):

water therapy/excercise. Avoid using the frog kick because of the lateral motion(breath stroke kick). And avoid bending leg too much at the knee . Go slow and if it hurts you stop.

Recumbent bike or recumbent eliptical, might be ok. But again consult your dr or physical therapist.

You really need to see your dr first, to avoid making your injuries worst than you started. You need the diagnosis and a treatment plan. Hope this helps.

    Visit doctor.
Ask for MRI to see if any tears.
    Rest.
Physical therapy as advised by doctor.

Don’t exercise at all without doctor’s clearance.

Get it professionally evaluated. Don’t keep running on it. While you’re waiting to see a doctor, try RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation).

Yes! I don't know how old you are, and you're looking a doctor and a physical therapist.

    Doctor(GP)
    Doctor(Ortho)
    PT(Physical Therapist)

It could be runners knee(nothing) or it could be an injury. Until you get it checked out... to include Imagery(MRI/CAT/Xray) you don't know... especially if this is the first time you've experienced these symptoms

No need for me to tell you to see a specialist and not to try and ignore the pain.

Go see a sports medicine doctor/orthopaedist/physical therapist. You will probably be prescribed a whole bunch of hip strength and mobility exercises.

I have runner's knee. My chiropractor fixed me up and gave me some strengthening exercises to do. I highly recommend visiting one if you can. You can google the exercises to do to strengthen the muscles. Good luck!

I guess I'm the unicorn that played with fire. I got a bout of runners knee during marathon training. Googled some exercises, followed them for 2 weeks while resting and significantly backing off my mileage and was fine.

Echoing the advice to see an ortho or sports med doc and get a referral for PT. I had some issues, saw sports med, did six weeks of PT, and had massive improvements not only in the knee itself, but in my pacing and general performance.
