D.R.E.S.S. for Health Success: is this as bad as I think it is?

My husband got a text from one of his dojo mates. Apparently his wife is doing something with D.R.E.S.S. for Health Success and we have been invited to a "workshop" at their house. To wit:

Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN), the brainchild of Reed Davis, who has no background in medicine, is a relatively new company based in Poway, California. It claims to be related to the field of functional medicine (which is considered to be an alternative or pseudoscience) which focuses on a personalized approach to medicine in which a client’s health is determined through diagnostic tests.
So the founder of this program has no medical training and uses samples of urine and hair to determine immune function, detoxification ability, and hormonal balance in people. They then give people holistic treatments to fix "underlying" medical issues...that the person probably doesn't actually have. The company that certified this quack and his company has been in lots of trouble with the FDA, so you're right to avoid it.11 -

That's just what my husband said, and I'm tempted myself, only it might be rude to laugh in the middle of her spiel. Well, your instincts were 100% correct on this one.
It’s funny, but if you look at the general tone and cadence of the pitch, it is basically the same way health woo has been peddled for the past 200 years.
The products change, but the scam remains the same.2 -

It's called diagnosis. It what physicians devote themselves to study for 8 years through medical school and residency, to learn how to do.
What she is doing is practicing without a license. That's horrible. She can do so much harm.2 -

When I first read about functional medicine as a concept I was really intrigued. Our standard western healthcare does a great job of diagnosing and treating disease but a poor job of promoting health. We tend to wait until something is broken to do anything. My understand of the functional medicine approach was to proactively identify risk factors, trends, and whatnot and develop ways for patients to cultivate optimal health habits or routines.
The more I actually looked into functional medicine MDs and ancillary functional medicine fields the more I realized that it is almost exclusively made up of pseudoscience, charletains, and con artists out to make a buck. You’re better off sticking with traditional medicine, nutrition, and a healthy self education in epidemiology.5
