Very confused...

Maybe I am overthinking this, but, last night I made my kids the On-Cor BBQ rib shaped patties. According to the label, a serving is "1 patty with 1/3 cup of BBQ" which should be 123g. My kids left 2 patties uneaten, so I decided to take them for my lunch today. I put them on the scale and the 2 patties were only 149 g together.

Should I log them as 2 servings, or, should I log it as 149 g?? The calorie count is considerably different (248 calories compared to 410 calories).

I'd be sending an email to complain about the weight of the patties. Sounds like they are cheating and scrimping on the patties.

Weighing food that is packaged is always a good idea.

It doesn't say, but, it's frozen in the sauce when you buy it. I don't think it's raw when you buy it either.

how much did each patty weigh before cooking them? If you didn't weigh them, then take the higher cal, as you lose weight as things cook (water evaporates), but that doesn't lower the calories.

does that include the sauce you are weighing, because 1/3 cup of sauce should weigh about 60g ... so the weight of a single patty will be about 60-70g

Good point. There wasn't much sauce left by the time my kids were done with it so I doubt there was 1/3 cup for each patty.

I'm pretty sure they are cooked before you buy them and you are really just making them hot. Like the chicken patties, or chicken parm patties.

Possibly some where in between the two, and probably difficult to work out exactly. As serving size & also weight is based on 1/3 cup of sauce with each pattie. If you have weighed just the patties and not any extra sauce, it will weigh less. But If you are only eating the patties, without any additional extra sauce, it will have less calories. But with the information provided, you won't know how many calories were in each pattie and the portion of sauce separately. So it will be somewhere in between your 2 calorie estimates. If more of the calories are in the meat (rather than sauce), then it will be closer to the higher amount. Log the higher amount and your covered or estimate calories in sauce and deduct accordingly.
I looked up the following, but its obviously still an estimate.
(Estimated typical barbecue sauce is 60 calls per 1/3 cup x2 =120 cal less. So 410 -120 = 290 calories for patties)?

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and advice. I had originally logged the weight of the patties, but, after reading everyone's posts, I think I will log it as 1.5 servings, which is 308 calories, and, in the middle of the 2 numbers.

Good plan! In the grand scheme of things, if your regular logging is on target, a little deviation like this won't even be a blip on the radar.
