I have been really bad with staying within my goal for the past 2 weeks ever since visiting my mother in Canada. She always make a ton of delicious food that I have a hard time avoiding. I was only there for 4 days but I've kept on eating much more than my daily 1200...reaching 1700-2000 calories a day now for 2 weeks. My weight has gone up 3 lbs but I feel as though the majority of it is water weight and maybe a bit of fat. Nonetheless I've ended up really discouraging myself and have just been flat out frustrated with the process. It has been a total of 3 months with a loss of 13 lbs...one month of which (December) I didn't lose anything. How have you coped when in this situation....what made you get back on track? I'm starting to get depressed with myself over letting myself go again. I know I should just disregard whats happened and pick myself up again but its proving to be more difficult than anticipated.

13lbs in 3 months is excellent progress! That's slightly over 1lbs lost per week, which is an excellent weight loss pace, so congrats!

Think of your past 2 weeks as a much needed diet break to reset your leptin and ghrelin levels. It's a good thing, honestly. And in fact, recommended for a lot of people during their weight loss journey.

Here's the giant thread on refeeds and diet breaks if you're interested: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10604863/of-refeeds-and-diet-breaks/p1

So try not to get discouraged! It sounds like you're on a great path towards your goals and it's time to get back into your regular calorie deficit to lose some more weight. Obviously motivation is something that we cannot provide for you, but I think if you just push yourself hard enough to be consistent for at least a week, you'll get used to your calorie deficit again and get right back on track.

    Best of luck!

The first thing to consider is why you find yourself wanting to eat more:
    • is 1200 calories right for you (quite often this allowance is a result of people setting far too aggressive a rate of loss) and if this is the case you could be eating more because you are actually hungry. Take a look at the pics below.
    • is it out of boredom - find something else to fill the time.
    • is it an emotional response - find other coping methods.
