Has anyone tried homechef? I love the idea of having fresh ingredients delivered to my door and the food looks awesome! Most of the meals stay under 600 calories but the salt intake is 1300+ which is definitely a bit much in my opinion. Should I be concerned with the amount of sodium? Any thoughts on it would help. Thanks!

I would think if they are fresh ingredients and you are making the food you could alter the amount of sodium that goes into the dish.

I do Blue Apron, which I believe to be similar. It helps with portion control, the ingredients have been good, and it's broken me out of a pretty severe "meal rut". I'm probably going to take a break from it in the summer--I'm an adjunct professor during the Fall/Spring semesters--but it's done a lot to preserve my time and sanity while I'm working two jobs.

I don't know about HomeChef, but the sodium in Blue Apron is largely because every other step is "salt and pepper to taste"--the ingredients themselves don't actually contain sodium. I skip about half of the salt-and-pepper steps.

Ok great! I was thinking that was the sodium contents of the actual ingredients. Thank you!

    That makes sense. Thank you!

I've tried Blue Apron, Hello Fresh and Home Chef. By far Home Chef is my favorite. The recipes are pretty easy, I've learned a lot about cooking, it helps me with meal planning. Some of the recipes are a little high in calories (800-900) but I don't have low calorie set as one of my preferences. I've been doing Home Chef for about a year, and it's rare to find a meal we don't like

I don't do those because it's too expensive, and the amount of packaging material is completely irresponsible in my opinion. I do pick one of the recipes from some of those websites every now and then and cook that, buying my own ingredients.

I advise you to not trust the calories though: generally, everything you add to the meal, like cooking oil, sugar, etc is not part of their calorie information.

1300 is well under the recommended 2300 per day. How much sodium do you want from these meals vs the others you eat? Ask if they offer a low sodium option or as suggested above, use less salt in your prep.

I’ve tried them all and Home Chef is my favorite. You start with fresh ingredients (in most cases) and can control the sodium. No worries there.
