FYI, in 2018, Chinese New Year officially starts on Feb 16 and ends on Mar 2.
See: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/essential/holidays/new-year/dates.htm
It's not just 1 day long. It normally lasts about 15 days during which time certain customs are carried with the private banquets and public celebrations generally coming at the end.1
