I just delivered my third baby ( a little girl ) 12 weeks ago. I’m breastfeeding 3 times a day (she takes formula while I’m at work). I’m set for a one pound weight loss per week so my calorie allowance is 1640. How many calories should I add a day for breastfeeding, since I’m not exclusively breastfeeding? TIA!

I did some research and what worked well for me was to set my calories at maintaining and let breastfeeding make the deficit. Since you are not exclusivity bfing maybe choose a smaller goal like a half pound a week? You can also make bfing a custom exercise and account for it that way. Either way you need an extra 200-400 cals a day. Congrats on your baby! My fourth is six months old :)

Are you pumping too? If not, three feeds a day will not be enough at 12 weeks to sustain your milk supply so I would not factor it in at all since it is unlikely you will be breastfeeding for much longer.

Also, I wouldn't be dieting at all right now. That will dry up the rest of your milk even faster. Unless you just want to switch to formula. Then three feeds a day with dieting should do it.

I am not pumping. I’ve been doing this since I went back to work, and my supply has regulated very well. Supply and demand I suppose.
