hello, would like ideas for staying the course.

Hello, I am just starting, i have a lot to lose, and want to focus on eating healthy. i'm a all or nothing kind of gal, and I just want to know what to do when temptation or situations cause me to veer off course. how do you bounce back, if you eat more than planned? what works for you?

You need to work on your all or nothing mindset. Aim for better, or good enough, not perfect. Plan and eat regular meals, in line with your calorie allowance. Weigh yourself regularly, look at the trend over time. Reduce temptation wherever you can, but accept that there will be challenges, every day. Use weightloss as practice for maintenance. Figure out how often you have room for treats. Learn what appropriate amounts of food looks like, and be grateful that you have enough, of delicious, safe, healthy food. Eating enough is not being greedy, and eating what you like is your right and privilege. It's just consistently eating too much that is wasteful and harmful.

I concur that the "all or nothing" thought process will most likely get you into trouble.
We are all works in process - not machines. You will have good days/bad days... good weeks/bad weeks... good months/bad months... so a focus on long term success is more likely to take you to better places mentally and physically. Take the good with the bad.
Honest / accurate logging of food will help you succeed. Eliminating foods from your life that you love in order to shed the pounds is a big error (in my opinion). It's not sustainable long term and often leads to a binge which then leads to trying to put the pieces emotionally back together.
Come up with a long term sustainable plan and go with it. Just be flexible enough to allow that plan to change course the farther down the road you go. You may find new things you want to do and try and may decide certain things you no longer enjoy.

try logging in to MYP after each and every meal then it will help you make better decisions in what food to eat.. also, it would be a lot of help to check out the nutrition labels of the food items you buy at the grocery store.. it sure does take up a lot of your time but you'll get to be informed better..1

just change one thing at a time, ie by swapping sugar soda for diet, you realise that you can save 300cal a day ... do that for a while until its the norm. Then work on the packets of pretzels and crisps/chips .. maybe jusst one packet a day ... then 2 packets a week
If you try to do everything at once, you will crash and burn ...... so start by logging and weighing everything, just realising how much you are eating is a massive step forward .... I though a plate of fries was 200kcal ... no .. a hand full is 200kcal, a plate is 700kcal
then look at ways of reducing your calories BUT still enjoying what you like, ie, a bit of chocolate at the end of a meal ... not a bar of chocolate whilst you sit and watch TV .. with a wine, and a bagle etc
take it slow and ramp it up when you master the thing you are on3
