To the makeover experts... let's talk about "accentuating your best features

Call it a case of mid-life crisis, but I'm looking to reinvent myself. Everything I've read mentions "accentuating your best features ". But what if you don't know what they are or maybe don't have anything special enough to accentuate? And what if the features YOU think are special maybe aren't what you should focus on? If we all knew what our best features are, we would already be showing them off :)

What are your best features? How did you figure them out and what do you do to show them off? Inspire me, everyone!!!

A cut and/or color can change your whole look. Start picking up clothes you wouldn't pick regularly and try them on anyway. I think anything can be your best feature. Start trying out different makeup techniques. One day focus on the eyes, the next a bold lip.

My eyes are my best feature, everybody compliments them- especially when I use the right makeup. Go to a Sephora, or other makeup store where they offer makeovers for free or cheap and they will do you up and show you how to get that effect at home. Then, if you think you look great buy it! Some department stores (Nordstrom ect.) will teach you how to dress in the same way, you just make an appointment and they pick things out for you.
I have no idea what is flattering or how to use makeup on my own...leave it to the professional!

Oh :) I love this. I would love to do your hair.
I've had my license since Feb 1985!
    I recommend something like this.
So I would cut your hair and do your style is similar to this cut, and style, and color, only two inches longer. And to prevent any harsh grey outgrowth, do not weave any hair color that is darker, or any color. Except only weave a bleach with Olaplex lightener, and blond toner if needed, after lightening.

Oh. To answer your question. I think my hair. I try to do my hair, and lipstick on most days. Some days I spend extra time on makeup. I used to spend a lot of time getting ready for work, but not at this stage of my life. Not the job I have now.

Thanks for the tips.... I do know that a bold lip wouldn't work on me... I've got a weird gummy smile and crooked front teeth and wouldn't want to draw attention to that. I'm good at knowing what I do NOT want to draw attention to, which I believe is half the battle :) but I'll consider the other tips. Thank you!!

I had not considered having my hair this light. Normally I'm somewhere between a honey blonde and a strawberry blonde. This would definitely be a change for me!

I think everyones best feature is their smile. A smiling face and an inner confidence is without doubt where to begin. Make up can be simple but still add a bit of highlight, eyes are pretty important since everyone is looking straight at them so a bit of effort with mascara and making sure your eyebrows arnt out of control is a good start. You can then try adding more make up or different make up routines. YouTube is excellent for getting ideas to suit your particular face shape skin tone etc.

Clothing wise I can be a bit hopeless but iv picked up a few tips and ideas from collegues & friends, people around a similar age range as myself. Also again, YouTube and the like can offer ideas and advice. It can take making a few mistakes clothing wise before you find styles that flatter your figure. A big one for me is colour, I don't suit every colour of clothing & it has taken me quite a few mistakes to realise that I just don't suit cobalt blue even although I think the colour looks stunning. Play it safe to start with colour wise. Pick colours your attracted to, but that also suit your skin tone.

If your happy with your neckline/ bust etc chose tops with flattering neck lines to showcase it. Show off the parts that make you happy. If your not happy with your arms, tops with longer arms you will most likely feel more comfortable in. Get tops that have a bit of length, that way they don't pop up and flash your belly, you then also have the option to tuck them in, that will showcase your waist. Add a nice belt and you can transform an outfit. Trouser wise I find a skinny leg or bootcut most flattering, or stretch fabric black trousers.

Basically, anything your not happy with, hide it by disguising it with clothing. That's the beauty of clothing, it can hide a multitude of sins and in same token it can really help to accentuate all the parts you love just play about with different fabrics, colours and patterns. Don't be afraid to try totally new and different things that's usually the way that you end up finding a new style or discovering what really suits you, and doesn't. After a while you will have a good idea of what doesn't work cos you will have tried on so many things ! Good luck :)

This is very helpful. I had never thought about it in terms of "what makes me happy".

    What great tips here!

I went to get my hair colored last week - I'm naturally a dark blonde and my hair is super curly and thick (and really hard to deal with!) and usually use a kind of warm caramel for color. The gal who does my hair said "can I put some red in your hair?" Sure, why not.

I now have really red hair and I love it! Never would have thought of doing it but it really brings out my skin tones and eyes. So I think trying something different is really great when you you just need to change things up.

Feh... I'm excluded from this thread for the same reason... and I'm the one who created it!

my lips are my best feature coz that’s what people compliment me on

i lick them and bite them seductively to draw attention away from worse features like my dark soul and warped brain

    Work it!!

I sometimes add some extra red to my hair. I like the color itself but in certain lighting it overwhelms my face. I've been thinking about playing around with a deeper caramel blonde.

I tried being a brunette once and it looked terrible on me, which is a bummer because I love dark hair on other people.
