Why do the website and the Android app show daily Calories Remaining in different formats?

I have a fitbit and have linked it with my Myfitnesspal account. I was confused by the sometimes plus and sometimes minus number for Exercise shown in the "Calories Remaining" view in myfitnesspal but after reading this page
https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Third-Party-Apps-Integrations/Fitbit-and-MyFitnessPal-calorie-discrepancy/td-p/179781
I thought I understood. But then I noticed that the calories shown at the website were minus and on the phone they were plus (please see screen shots). WTF? Then I noticed that on the phone the result of the calculation was labeled "Remaining" and on the website the result was labeled "Net", meaning the net calories consumed after subtracting exercise from food intake. Ok, now I see why the exercise is shown as plus or minus depending on whether shown on the app or website but my question is WHY do they do this? It is confusing. They should just pick one of these and show it the same way on the phone and website. My guess is different teams developed the web and phone GUIs and they each had their own way of looking at it but that is not an excuse for confusing the users.
