Medication change binged

Well they upped my nightly dosage of one of my Bipolar medications to get me out of a manic episode and boom. Two or three days of doing okay on the intake until night falls. Last night it was Oreos I bought two packages ate two rows of the Oreos and went to bed. I brought down the remaining cookies gave them to the wifey and told her to give them to the kids or hide them.

It is so frustrating knowing I have too take these increases from time to time. Knowing they lead too sugar and carb cravings. But remaining stable is my number one concern.

Before people say medications don't make you eat unhealthy STFU. They don't for everyone but for some of us they give us a hopeless feeling and a screw it attitude where you want your cravings met and too drift off to sleep. Because the racing thoughts just wear you down. The gratification of the bad food triggers me to sleep on a full belly and the racing thoughts stop for a few hours.

Today is a much better day, the three day increase has stopped the manic episode. I will have to deal with the cravings a couple more days while my levels even out, but not being manic will make it much more simple.

Hey there! Sounds like you have a plan, (" I brought down the remaining cookies gave them to the wifey and told her to give them to the kids or hide them")
you know what to expect: ("It is so frustrating knowing I have too take these increases from time to time.") and yes, you'll have to find some way of managing your cravings ("I will have to deal with the cravings a couple more days while my levels even out") but it seems like you've got this.
I'm in awe of you. Well done on your journey and on your resilience.
Perhaps having some planned snacks in place may help? Like having some home made banana icecream in the freezer (freeze sliced bananas for an hour or so, then blend and either eat there and then for a soft scoop experience or refreeze for a firmer 'icecream') or some reduced fat biscuits in the cupboards... rice pudding is also a good one, particularly if you put some protein powder in with it... Finding out what works for you may be the name of the game once the meds have properly kicked in. Meanwhile, we've got your back.

Can you try (this might be a stupid idea but the only one I got) to fill up with volume foods which contain very low calories like leafy greans, cucumbers, peppers etc. You will still crave the yummy oreos but maybe if your stomach is completely full you will eat less of them.
By all means you need to concentrate on you episode now and stabilise but doing a lot of weight damage might worsen the depression drop afterwords so it's worth trying maybe.

Which meds are you on? I got Bipolar and I am on Quetanpine 300 mg.

With lower doses I was zombified and just ate and ate, just feeling crap 24/7 ,since increase I got a bit more control. I know what you say about increases I felt sick as a dog for first 3 weeks and now I may be going to different meds all together.

Be kind to yourself,a couple of days won't ruin everything,
just do your best to get back on track when you feel better .

Same one plus Depakote. I am fine at my maintenance dosage of 200mg nightly anything more and the cravings start.

Not a dumb idea at all. I have tried this, but the carb and sugar cravings usually win even if I ate a pound of salad.
