Totally lost on gaining healthy weight

Hi everyone,
So...I concede I have no clue where to put this. If this is in the wrong section, of the forums, please let me know where this needs to go.
I basically am in a position where I am TOO skinny and need to put some weight on. But I having a nightmare of a time putting any kind of plan of attack together.
It's not as simple as just eating more for me because I'd like the weight I put on to be healthy weight, but bulking sounds very intimidating to me because I do not have access to a gym.
I also haven't been very good at staying with workout programs. Since I don't know a burpee from a bench press -- honest -- I've been trying to look for guided video routines...but there's been a catch. I'm a big believer in cross-checking the on-screen trainers to make sure they're nationally certified; I come from the camp that feels it's better to have a poor trainer who's certified than a good one who's not. The results have been pretty disastrous; I've given both Daily Burn and Bodyrock the boot because most of the trainers on both sites don't list their certifications on their profiles, and in my book nothing to match is an automatic crosscheck fail. This doesn't look like something I'm willing to compromise on, either.
There's no easy answers here, I get that. But where do I start?

By "gain healthy weight" do you mean muscle?
In general, what kind of weight you gain will be most affected by how quickly you gain the weight and by your exercise or lack there of. So you want to eat at a slight surplus (half a lb per week) and commit to strength training. You might want to check out the Gaining Weight forum for workout advice. Good luck!0 -
@kimny72: Yeah, I could use some muscle, too I guess, although I will concede that I'm not looking to bodybuild.
It's very nice of you to point me to where I should go and I appreciate it a lot. Thank you!0
