I was an avid MFP member several years ago. I lost 55 pounds and was so happy. I was a motivated rock star! Nothing stopped my workouts and diet choices. Clothes fit, went off meds, felt better, ect. Well, three years later my daughter was injured in an accident that required multiple surgeries and physical therapy and I lost my focus on me and just worried about her. I then gained it all back and then some. I am now trying to lose and regain my health. I joined a gym and I am logging daily but I have NO internal motivation. I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and I hurt all of the time. I have to force myself to go to the gym and I don't get that happy satisfied feeling that I worked out each time. I eat much better and in my calorie range most of the time, but I always want the bad stuff. I have set a goal and I am going on a cruise that I want to lose weight for and buy a new wardrobe. I could care less!! I just want to be motivated again!! Any suggestions???

Well, you’ve identified a few goals: new wardrobe for cruise, improved health and a little “me time.” I’d think it’s very difficult to work out if you’re always in pain. I injured my back last week and the only exercise I can tolerate is walking. I’m not sure it’s motivation you need. You need the discipline to develop new habits. Keep logging daily- you know it works. Put on your shoes and go for a walk every day. See if you can get a friend to join you. If the gym isn’t doing it for you, maybe you should take a break from it. You can lose weight without exercise.

Oh, and I’m wondering whether you’ve considered yoga? Does your gym offer yoga classes? Gentle stretching exercises might be helpful. Your joints might not like all the postures but just do what you can.

I have a muscle disease and I'm in constant pain. I lost 70 pounds without exercising. It's more about portion control than working out.
Now that the weight is off, though, I find I am able to swim without causing additional pain.

I have fibromyalgia and am a cancer survivor. Exercise hurts at times. Stretching and yoga helps. You can loose without exercise. Your diet plays a huge part. First week I lost 8 pounds with no exercise only watching my calories. I gained alot of weight after knee surgery. I decided though that I need to get control of my life. I work in healthcare so I know I need to get healthy. I have made so many excuses as to why I don’t have time to take care of myself. So, I get the lack of motivation. You can do it! Get up each day and just make up your mind that today is about you! If you want, add me, I will msg you each day to encourage you
