If you could only do 5 things for exercise, what would they be?
I quit the gym...it became too social. So I am going to do home workouts but I want to condense it to the exercises that people deem most important. So, I would love to hear what you would do.
I do have dumbbells of various weights.

"fitness things" is a REALLY vague/general term. Do you mean to be so general?
In no particular order...
1) cycling
2) hiking
3) basketball
4) pivot press
5) carries2 -
Run/Bike
Pavel's KBell Workout(Simple &Sinister/EtK/RKC)
Planks
Pullups
Bar Squats
As above. Whole Body/Core
1 -
Squat
Deadlift
Bench Press
Run - mostly outside in my neighborhood, but I have a gym with treadmills at my office I use when it's too cold
Yoga - this is the only one I do 100% outside of my home
That said, what I deem important may not be as important to others. It's all about what your personal goals are.3 -
What are "things"? Exercises or activities?
Activities:
Walk
Hike
Swim
DB /BB training
TRX (another form of strength training)
Exercises.:
Deadlift
Row
Squat
Chest press
Lunges
Rather than doing what others like to do, why not follow an organized program. There is a link to many good programs in the Gaining forum. Someone will probably post it here.0 -

Personally I don't think I could narrow it down to 5 exercises... I would say some variations of hip thrusts, deadlifts squats, kettlebell swings, chin-ups/pull-ups ... but that would be a terribly inefficient program if that is all I was doing and I would be sad haha.
I would check out this link for programs that suit the equipment you have.

Movement Things:
- Squat

I can think of more than 5 things that can be done with just a barbell/dumbell at home.... Or even body weight, for that matter.
Why limit it to '5 things'?0 -

@_dracarys_ I think we could be fitness twins....that is exactly what I was gonna say!!! Except I do have to go to the gym for the treadmill or run the indoor track on icy days. I do yoga at home as well as at a studio.1 -
Swim (Pool & Open Water)
Bike (Road & Trail)
Run (Road & Trail)
Yoga
Insanity or P90X (for weights)

Suitcase/farmer style carries involve loading 1 or both sides with a kettlebell/barbell/Plate, and walking 10-100 meters.
Suitcase is one side loaded, farmer is both sides, other variations are overhead carries or shoulder(yoke) carries.
Tangent nitpick. Pushups are a plank variation, and thus need not take up a separate line item.0 -

Exercises shouldn't be chosen based on popularity among strangers of questionable expertise, but rather your own goals, preferences, abilities, and available equipment. For strength training, i'd follow a proven, pro-designed program.
Personally i get better & more diverse workouts at a gym, so i'd go back there and stay focused on what you need to do. Wearing over-the-ear headphones helps deter conversation.7 -
