Calorie Calculation

Bear in mind, my maths is abysmal. :s But what I work out never seems to match what the packaging says!

Tesco packaging says: '210 calories per portion.' 2 portions per pack.

Packing ALSO says:
Calories per 100g: 149
330 grams in a pack.

149 divided by 100 = 1.49
That means 1.49 calories in a gram.

1.49 x 330 = 491.7

So... 491.7 divided by 2 = 245.85

Am I going crazy here or is Tesco lying to me and neglecting to put the extra 70 calories on their 'per portion' label?

HELP. This isn't the first time I've seen this.

You're not alone finding conflicts like this. Even within MFP, entries for the same food can be all over the place. I know it's not much help, but what I do is just make my best guess, comparing what I'm questioning to foods I'm more sure about.

Go with the per 100 g count. Food labels are notoriously off, so you have to weigh your food to get the accurate calories.

If you have a food scale, weigh the portion you eat and use the calories for the 100g serving size. For example: if it weighs 165g, you ate 1.65 servings of a 100g serving size. 1.65 x 149 calories = about 246 calories per portion. (like you figured) The 210 calories for each portion is basically meaningless without the weight. I would go with the higher calories if you don't have a scale. Think about getting one! I'm sure you'll run into this kind of thing again and it will be handy to have.

There could be a discrepancy if one is cooked weight (or prepared weight) and the other is the raw weight. I have seen that on Tesco packets sometimes.
