make me throw my clothes away!

okay guys.. i came here very late December crying because i hit rock bottom when i realized all my pairs of old skinny jeans seemed impossible to even pull on and put on. I put them in a stack and sulked for a day. The reality of that was worse than what the scale said.

so...here i am folks.. end of February sitting in those skinny jeans. i did it.. knocked it out of the park...the bulk of the fat is gone. and i'm fine tuning my loss at this point.

however.. i am having a hard time doing what i dreamed of that first depressing day.. and that's ceremoniously taking all my bigger jeans and clothes to goodwill to say goodbye forever.

i find myself having a hard time just doing it! Sort of like losing the weight.. you sit around thinking about it..but doing it is another story.

Getting rid of all those clothes was supposed to be my sweet revenge and moment of triumph ... So why can't i just do it? So weird.

    Just think of how pleased someone else will be.

    Admittedly, I do still have one pair of my old jeans from 2008, but for everything else, if I couldn't alter it, I donated.
    This was a few months after reaching maintenance, had to be sure.

    If it was something I was particularly fond of, I took a picture.

    I just put all mine in storage in a box marked, “X pounds and under.”

    Just do it. Give those clothes to someone else who can use them...who isn't fitting into their skinny jeans right now but just needs a pair of something inexpensive until they can.
    I never keep anything in the bigger sizes, once I'm done with them I'm done. I am desperately trying to get back to my 6s and 8s so any time I go down a size I just get rid of that stuff. Also, no more maternity clothes for me.

    I do what others have said - pack a few of the favorites, but too big now clothes away for at least a few months before donating. Always keep 1 pair of your biggest size pants for references in the future.

    Maybe pack them up and store them for a couple of months and set a Spring donation date.
    Donate half of them now and pack the rest away for later.

    Is there something that you really loved that would be hard to find again?
    Can you not afford new clothes or just have not done any shopping yet?
    Do you have trouble in general getting rid of things?
    Do you fear you will regain and will need the clothes? Is what you are doing to lose weight hard for you to maintain?

    I am holding on to a lot of my bigger pants. Maybe out of fear that I'll need them again one day? I don't really know what makes me hold on to them. Shirts, I have no problem packing them up and donating them. Jeans will sit for a good while before I randomly go in to my closet on a rampage and toss them in to the donation bin. It's weird!! But the closer I get to my goal the easier it's getting. I rationalized with myself and said that even if I gain a little weight at some point and go up a size, I have the tools and the knowledge now to not allow myself to go all the way back to my biggest size. Going to just hang on to the pants that are one size up from current.

    You get a lot of satisfaction at seeing those clothes go. I have consistently given away my clothes when they are too big for me to wear. Granted the first stages of this from 378 to 225 Lbs, I wore clothes that were at least 3 sizes too big for me because I refused to buy new clothes at that stage. Now when thing are so loose on me that they are bagging, I love to give them away. It makes me feel good about my progress and giving them away to someone else who may have some use for them. I still have to push myself when I am trying on clothes to get rid of clothes that I will never wear and that I don't even like. Now that I'm 220 Lbs down at 158 Lbs and I won't keep things around that don't fit me or look good on me.

    To be completely honest, this change has to do with more than just clothes though. In the last few years, I have systematically gotten rid of items that I have no use for. I have had the tendency to box things up and think about that tomorrow. I have gone through my closet and just tossed what doesn't fit in my life anymore.
