How do you count “net carbs?”

So my fellow carb counters how do you count carbs. The packaging on these tortillas I just purchased say only to count the “net carbs” as it’s high in fiber. So total carbs are 19g and fiber is 15g so I should only count 4g. What do you do?

I am going to count total carbs as well but what’s the point of net carbs then other then for advertising purposes.

I believe net carbs = total carbs - fiber. What I do is I don't count carbs, but that's prob not the answer you're looking for.

Are you trying to do a specific diet?

Yes net carbs are less the fiber but if you are counting carbs like I am wouldn’t you want to track the total rather then just the net. It’s still a carb, right? And yes I am on a low carb low fat diet and I am cutting from about 16%bf to around 10%.

You might want to ask in the low carb group, I believe its personal preference whether you use total or net carbs.

Godspeed doing low carb low fat, I'd have to stay on the couch all day chewing on my arm. You get fuel from either one or the other, I can't imagine doing low both!

Because some fibre isn't digested, not contributing to energy intake. Personally, I disregard net carbs as I don't think it's a definitive yes/no situation, and we do get some energy from some fibre sources - it may not be the full 4 cals per gram as we get from sugars, but it's not easy to determine.

Diabetics don't count fiber carbs because they aren't absorbed as energy, so something with 19 g carbs and 14 g of fiber would be 5 net carbs. Fiber doesn't spike blood sugar.
