calories burnt

Hello everyone!
earlier this week I challenged myself by switching from the stationary bike to the treadmill for my daily 45 mins long cardio. I was very surprised to see that I was burning twice as much as what I normally burn on the bike. Is this possible? From 230cal to 500cal within 45mins, it's a huge difference (not that I complain!)...I thought the treadmill was broken.
I am new here, so I apologize in advance if this question was already asked before.
