Hey guys! I’ve been lifting weights for about 5-6 weeks & just started iifym with a coach 2 weeks ago! I’ve noticed my clothing (pants, shorts, jeans specifically) fitting differently. I’ve read that it’s normal for your body composition to change thereore changing the way your clothes fit. The waist is getting looser but the thighs and buns are getting tight (which makes me happy since I’m wanting to build a bigger butt) but Im wondering if any other females have experienced this and leaned out after awhile with clothes still fitting or if I’m just better off buying brand new summer clothes?? I don’t want to rid of all of my shorts if eventually I’ll be leaner! Thank you ladies!

Well, for me it's been gradual, but I don't have a coach or lift heavy. I started MFP at 254lbs, 5'3", just concentrating on diet and walking at least 25 minutes per day. That was October 30th 2016. Around Jan/Feb 2017, I started strength training with resistance bands. (They were cheap and I'd walked 45 minutes before stepping into a fitness store on the spur of the moment. Knowing I'd have to walk home again carrying whatever I bought that day made me decide not to get dumbbells). At the same time, I got books on strength training out of the library and started reading them with an eye to finding one I thought I'd want to purchase and use.

I started using dumbbells in May, but it took me another month or so before I got into a structured full-body workout. So, I'd say I've been seriously lifting relatively light weights—just about to work in a pair of 20lbs on lat rows this afternoon. I'm doing anywhere from 5 to 17.5 on other exercises—for around 9 months.

In my previous weight-loss attempts, which did not involve much strength training, I found that when buying tops, anything that wouldn't gape open at my chest needed the sleeves taken in. Lower body slimmed down in proportion, mostly because walking is my preferred cardio.

This go-round, my upper body has been decreasing proportionally. I'm guessing that strength training—esp pecs and maybe shoulders—is responsible. I've got some muscle definition on my arms, too. Nothing huge, but there is a noticeable difference. My posture's better, too (ab work? Confidence? More muscle retained overall? Probably a combo).

At my heaviest, elastic waistbands were my friends. I've started buying things that are a bit more fitted now.
