How to choose the right diet?

I have to ask because:

I lost about 30lbs last year. Because of my budget, I ate about 2 meals/day consisting of rice & veggies with cheese and the occasional meat, apples/celery w/peanut butter for snacks, and whatever I felt like for dinner. I still gave into sweets and didn't really exercise much - usually a walk or two during work breaks and the occasional basketball game - so was surprised to find I'd lost any weight at all. I clearly did not eat much protein beyond 2 servings of peanut butter..oh, and edamame when I could treat myself to it.

Now I'm being told by my trainer that I need to eat at least 60g of protein per day. That feels like a lot to me because I just don't crave proteins. It's hard to explain how my body reacts, but it gives me a sort of signal when it's had enough. I don't mind adding the protein shakes after a workout to curb hunger until I can get home and eat dinner, but having to add more protein beyond my apple and peanut butter? Feels like too much. :-/

Listen to your trainer..and do some reading about balanced nutrition. While peanut butter does have protein and healthy fats, it isn't enough for optimal health if that's all the protein you're getting. You don't have to do protein shakes if you don't want to...some are very tasty though. Eat meat, tofu, cheese, eggs, other nuts, beans, lots of places to get high quality protein. You don't need a "diet"..you just need to pay good attention to eating well. You can do this!

Protein is where your body gets its essential amino acids the building blocks of life. With out enough protein your body will have to get it from breaking down the protein it has stored in your body. This protein comes in the form of your muscles.
