My oldest son got married. At the end of last year. He is in the military so they decided just to have a small service. I wear scrubs to work and had been wearing lots of jogging pants recently. That shoulda been my first clue. Lol. So I was trying on my dress clothes to wear and even my big clothes were too tight. I thought aw f@$! I realized it was time to do something. I am down from 275 to 247.6. My goal weight is 205. I thought it would be neat to share when we realized it was time to do something about our weight.

I had known it was time for a while... clothes getting tighter, having to buy a larger size. But, it wasn't until I was looking at dresses for my nieces wedding and the size of the dress really bothered me. Along with the fact that I wouldn't "look good" in the style dress I wanted. Came home and started logging my food the next day.10

My son is getting married. He is in the military. They are going to be married on March 24, 2018 at Justice of the Peace then a small reception afterwards. We were told in January 2018 So i was like, oh crap I need to get in shape! I've been counting calories and working out at home. I started out at 150 lbs and today I am 133 lbs. Im 5' 5". Now, I want more! Tone back, arms, legs, stomach, and butt.8

Annual blood work showing fasting blood sugar = borderline diabetes.
Looked up my BMI and saw that I was 6 lbs away from the definition of morbidly obese.

About 46-49 lbs ago.. 3 years maintaining now. Makes me laugh thinking back. I have a golf wind shirt with a small v neck collar. At my highest weight I could not believe it just barely fit over my head ! I never knew that your head also got bigger with added weight. Add to that back fat rolls. Enough !!4

A video of me dancing with my son at his wedding. I had no idea my backside looked like that.6

Multiple trips to the doc for heart issues, being put on a mobile heart monitor 3-4 times before I even turned 25, and finally... Going to the ER for vomiting blood. Got ulcers from my *kitten* af diet.5

My hubby was in a nasty car accident, he became the stay at home parent and I am now the working parent.
I’m 5’4” and was lugging around 220 lbs. Ive lost 30 lbs in 2 yrs since his accident and still fighting the battle8 -
When I put on my jeans and had a bulging spare tyre! enough was enough I refused to go up another size.5

Unlike a lot of people, I weighed myself regularly. For years I watched the scale tick up, always thinking that the upward march would end on its own. Don’t know where I got an idea like that.
Typical of the pattern, I hung around 280lbs for awhile. Then one day 283. Ugh, here we go again. Then very quickly 285lbs.
That voice in my head came: When is this going to end?
Came the answer: Who says it has to end?
I could see that 300lbs was within easy reach. I had HBP, a CPAP, debilitating back pain, none of that would be better a 300lbs. And I was going to be 300lbs.
Last WI btw, 173.6lbs.21 -
Went into hospital for a back operation. I got on a set of scales for the first time in years to check in and nearly fell off in shock. There is no place better than a hospital to consider your future health.4

When I woke up one morning and it was painful to walk. But that wasn't the oh crap moment, it was when it happened, three weeks in a row, it dawned on me my foot couldn't bear my weight anymore and if I gain anymore, I'd probably ruin my foot and be unable to walk. I wasn't gonna have any of that, I was 300 pounds then, I'm 207 now two years later. To be honest, if that didn't happen, I'd probably never lose any weight, when I look in the mirror, I had goggles on and I never saw myself as fat or obese, I always thought my size was perfect at any weight, I look at old pics and see I was severely overweight but maybe that's because I'm thinner now and I have something to compare to.9 -
Love these, it's amazing what spurs us on!
I've had many in my life but none of them jolted me out of my terrible lifestyle... suppose in my case everything just sort of snowballed & came to a head...
The one that will always stick in my mind & definitely SHOULD have been my catalyst was actually about 5 years ago though. I broke my elbow & when the Doctor put my x-ray on the lightbox to show me where it was fractured, there was just this HUGE arm around this tiny wee set of bones.
I was genuinely shocked how fragile they looked - and not just because I'd broken one of them!4 -
When I saw a picture of myself. I usually just take head shots so I could stay in denial. This one was a full body shot. I honestly couldn't believe how big I was. I don't want to be the big one in the picture anymore. =(6

I was always able to keep up with my average weight friends despite being very obese. Then I gained even more weight at my first "career" job, and found myself over 300 lb and getting winded & pains in my shins and ankles when walking a lot on a business trip with my boss (average weight woman).
I never looked back, although it took me about 4 years to find calorie counting (which greatly accelerated my efforts) and roughly 6 years (total) to hit my goal.6 -
An HbA1c reading of 5.9 (prediabetes). That was the first time I've ever had that. Diabetes does run in my family, and I don't want to be next.5

^This.
I refused to spend ANY money on bigger clothes. It meant wearing tight things for a while longer, but that was 4 years ago, and last week, I finally gave those clothes away4 -
My most recent was this morning when the scale said 200.05

I started in late October of 2017 at 275lbs. Now I'm at 225lbs. Life's is awesome when mid term goals are a living reality. Good luck my man! 205 is in the horizon :-)1 -
My holy blank moment was when I had to wear bball shorts in the winter because I couldn't fit in any of my clothes!4

Mine was when I had my annual blood work done and my doctor said it was time to do something about my weight as my fasting blood glucose was showing me close to type 2 diabetes.4

I wear a lot of loose baggy clothes to work, mainly because I sit down all day and it's more comfortable. I recently became engaged to my fiancé and went dress shopping with my friend. I was in shock when they took my measurements. I was a dress size 14 when I used to wear a dress size 4!! I hated how I looked in all the photos they took of me, especially the one of my back. Yuck, back fat.4

When I saw my friend drop 50lbs. We are always about the same weight and now I am more than 50lbs heavier than she is. I said I have to do something.4

When I almost reached 200 lb.
I had slowly gained after getting married (happy weight!), learning to cook (freakin' gorgonzola cream sauce), and stress-eating during law school.4 -
Honestly? When I couldn't see my groin to do my personal grooming anymore. I needed a mirror or to go in blind. Soon after I realized it was a struggle to pain my own toe nails.
I'm down 30 lbs since then and all those issues due to my physical size are gone, but I'm not done improving.8 -
When I couldn't lay on my back anymore to go to sleep because it was hard to breath, and when I'd push through the discomfort, I'd find myself jutting awake cause I'd stop being able to breath in fully. So yeah, that's definitely a wake up call.5

I made a beautiful summer sleeveless shirt I wore to a party. Someone took a full-body picture of me, and I was amazed how large I was. Though I felt lovely during the party, the picture showed that my upper arms were flabby and sprinkled with cellulite, my belly strained against the pretty fabric, and I was flabbergasted to see that I seemed to have some tummy below the waistband of my jeans. OMG. Now I've used MFP and reached my goal weight and whew! - my current pictures show I've made the progress I wanted to achieve.4

Getting ready for work. Turning off the bathroom light I took one last look in the mirror before leaving and caught a glimpse of my profile.... that was enough.1
