Benefits of jumping rope (indoors)

I am thinking of buying a jump rope so I can jump rope indoors, so i was wondering what are the benefits and how much should I do daily?

I'm guessing that with regular sessions, you'd get a nice cardio benefit and some calf work as well. Sounds like fun.1

I have been advised to do rope jumping to help strengthening my ankles, so I guess that's a benefit.1

My jump rope goes with me on vacations. It’s a great all rounder:Cardio,stamina,endurance, coordination and leg workout. Mine also has weights in the handles.1

I started taking boxing lessons about 10 months ago, and jumping rope is part of the training. When I first began, I was a klutz and couldn't even do 25 without getting winded or tripping up. Now I do 3 sets of 3 minutes each at double time. I'm not really sure of the "benefits", but I love it and my legs look great LOL. BTW: I'm 63 years old. So I figure if I can do it, pretty much anybody can5
