Healthy low calorie/carb snacks

Hello everyone, so I have been tracking my food pretty consistently for the majority of the past 2-3mos. I have found that portion control is a big deal for me and an area to focus on, but more importantly my snacking! Snacks easily make up 30-40% of my calorie intake and leave me less room for filling meals. Do you all have any suggestions on healthy low calorie snacks and/or low carb snacks?

Do you need to snack? Any reason you can't skip the snack(s) and save those calories for more filling meals?

There's a thread in here called the volume eaters thread - it's all about people who want to be able to eat large volumes of food while staying within their calorie goals. As such, there's a lot of light/lower calorie options discussed in there. Give that thread a read.

I've been in maintenance for going on 5 years save for the 8-10 Lbs of winter weight I put on every year. In maintenance I often graze/snack in the evening. I don't log, so when I get serious about cutting the winter weight, the first thing I do is stop that and just stick to maybe one snack in the afternoon/early evening...usually jerky.

It's habit more than anything and it helps in maintenance...but it's pretty easy to just cut out when I need to drop weight.

My breakfast and lunch tend to be lighter meals so I do snack at work. My breakfast is normally 100ish calories and lunch is between 200-300. I eat low carb and enjoy berries as a snack and cashews. The cashews aren't low calorie but if your meals are light you can afford snacks. I prefer to eat throughout the day instead of only three meals because it keeps me feeling satisfied for longer.

I measure my snacks in the evening and then have them ready to throw into my purse/lunchbox in the morning. My strawberries are usually between 2-3 ounces (which is usually 6 carbs or less) and I take 1 ounce of cashews. There are days where a significant % of my calories come from snacking because my meals are light. My job doesn't always afford me the opportunity to eat, so snacking is a great way to make sure I'm making my goals and staying satisfied so that I don't overeat at dinner.

--- I find myself hungry between meals, and sometimes even just wanting to snack on something. I have tried to switch it up and eat more substantial, nutrient-dense meals at higher calories and still find myself wanting to munch on something.

-- Just went through this thread... definitely going to try this! I need to better prep salads and veggies for on the go. Any quick, healthy salad ideas?

lol, unfortunately no. I don't eat salad, nor most anything in that thread. My diet stinks. I'm sure others will, though. Stay tuned!

Couple tomatoes, a decent cucumber. Perhaps tiny pinch of salt or pepper (but I don't usually use those). Slice those and toss couple times on a bowl.
Takes 2 minutes, 300 gr. Bowl is about 60 calories. Goes well alone, with all kinds of meat or with cottage cheese.

I fill the time between meals with a large mug of hot tea. It keeps my hands and mouth busy and puts something in my stomach.

    - Don't like cucumbers and am still kinda picky with tomatoes :( perhaps if they were wrapped in a big gyro... haha

Well, that's the simplest, fastest (and for me one of the best) low calorie salad ideas with lot of volume. You can substitute in for example paprika or something similar. Most good veggies just have more calories per volume than those 3.

There's always stuff like kale, lettuce and other types of grass, but I find those tasteless and pointless, and would gladly leave grass for cows

Do you like cabbage? A bag of shredded cabbage and carrots (slaw mix) is typically around 25 calories for 85 grams (about a cup and a half). When I'm hungry, I'll mix some with hot sauce and apple cider vinegar. It's a good amount of food for not many calories.

-- I do! Not so crazy about the hot sauce (I sound like I am a picky eater but I am not, I promise!) so perhaps I can mix it with a low calorie ranch or another type of dressing...

Yes, it doesn't have to be hot sauce -- that's just what I like. :D Any low calorie sauce/dressing would work!
