I'm 193 pounds, looking to get to 135-140 pounds! If my daily goal for calories (according to this app) is 1,270, how many calories should I burn a day to get results?

1270 is what you should eat... That figure (from My Fitness Pal , MFP) should already reflect whatever activity level and weight-loss goal you've entered.

If you burn additional calories, and log them, MFP will add those burned calories into the total number of calories you can eat for the day (usually MFP over estimates burned calories, so use some caution here).

Basically, you need only eat the value the MFP calculated for you , 1270 cals/day and you should lose weight at the rate that you entered into your fitness profile.

You don't have to burn any additional calories, as that is already set to lose weight. As a my of fact, you should enter your exercise and eat those additional calories.

    You'll do fine...

One of the easiest ways to begin is to kinda "ignore" the numbers and just get familiar with logging all of your foods (everything you eat, trying to be accurate bu focused more on just making the entries). Often, this is a good way to just kinda "wake up" to all the stuff that you've been eating, and the logging is a good first step toward managing your food intake.

Sometimes it's easier to start with baby steps, before trying to change your entire world.
