I like them occasionally just to get more protein in.

There are times of the day where I benefit from a mid day snack. If I have nothing with me I might go overboard at a fast food place. I find if I cut an energy bar in half it is about the perfect balance of macros and calories to carry me over to dinner.

The big advantage of the energy bar is that it is portable.

If you mean do they help with weight loss then no. No food does. Protein bars are just bars like mars bars but have a lot of protein. They are a good replacement for a normal chocolate bar if you need more proteins, presumably because you are strenght training.
They are indeed expensive and have quite some calories so unless I want to treat myself I never eat them.

But they will not make you or help you lose weight in any direct way. Nutrition is one thing, losing weight another. To lose weight eat at a caloric deficit.

(I remember when I was a child my mom (who's always been slim) buying these "sliming biscuits" and we used to eat them thinking that by eating them we will get slimmer. There was no internet at the time and desinformation was a big issue. Everyone was deluded in one way or another... )
