I am 40 and lost 45 pounds at age 38 on a lot more than 1400 calories per day (but I was exercising a lot). I've since basically kept it off, give or take a few pounds. MFP's calculations were pretty reliable for me. I even did all right using the values from the exercise database.

I lost inches everywhere but maintained a belly. I thought it was just genetics. Turned out to be a 16cm fibroid! All health indications were normal (thyroid, blood glucose, cholesterol, etc.). A doctor found a mass in my abdomen during a routine physical (hadn't been to a doctor for a few years before that). I hadn't even known it was there because I couldn't palpate the mass when I was standing up. No amount of abdominal exercise could've fixed that and I didn't even know about it.

Well what you said about Diabetes is absolutely wrong. If you want to learn more about Diabetes and metabolic syndrome, Please Read the obesity code by Dr Jason Fung who is a practicing nephrologist and a leading authority on Intermittent fasting.
After reading alot of comments here about diet and hormones since yesterday, I am very sorry to say that many of you guys know tits and bits about alot of things but fail to understand how they correlate.
I will leave this post here with a quote:

"The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge"

Fung has no idea what he’s talking about. Diabetes is largely caused by obesity and genetics.

We’ve given you our advice and left links to look through. Other than that, there isn’t much you’ll be able to do for your stomach if you won’t heed what we’ve said.

Too bad you need knowledge in the first place.

Your quote is ironic. I strongly suggest you do some research on your own about him. You'll quickly find out that he's not a reliable source. I urge you to look at real research and studies so you can fully understand this.
If you feel so strongly that you're correct, why not try to prove us wrong? Could you post some real research papers ,peer reviewed studies on the matter from reputable sources?
