I want to swim so I joined the Y.
Cons. Not cheap and they don't have enough squat racks.1 -
Thanks for the input!

Anytime Fitness
Pros: Can go anytime of the day. Cheap.
Cons: Not big enough0 -
-
Evolve Strength & Conditioning.
Pro: Lots of ER Racks and competition equipment. Generally "enough" equipment. Turf for doing sled work.
Cons: It's not as clean in the women's change rooms as I'd like it, and there aren't enough lights in the shower area. More expensive that the ladies only gym I was attending (but they didn't have enough of the right equipment).0 -
My apartment has a gym area.
Pros: 24-hour access, decent range of equipment, included with rent, don't have to leave the building
Cons: Equipment isn't quite as nice as you find at some gyms, limited amount of equipment so there is sometimes a wait0 -

Planet Fitness. Lots of newer equipment, rarely a wait for anything and lots of perks with the black card membership0

I use Fit4Less. It's only $20/mo (other gyms in my town are around $60-70/mo). It doesn't have showers or water fountains, but plenty of equipment and free weights. I don't mind, since I'm saving a lot of money.0

University staff gym aww yeah
Cons:
Relatively limited hours
Only 3 2.5lb plates
Not enough bumper plates
Pros:
Free for employees
Rarely more than 3 people in there
No students
12 power racks
Quiet1 -
Local family owned Gym
Con: Not cheap
Only two Power racks (Lately seems to be a problem)
Only two bench presses (See Above)
Not open 24 hrs but no effect on me
Pros: Steam Room
Sauna
Indoor and outdoor Pool
Full Gym has open BBall if you play
certain classes are free
plenty of cardio equip
plenty of dumbells
constantly improving
Family orientated
Indoor Track
Friendly and Kid friendly ours are older now but when were younger was nic
On my way home but 30 min drive from home
2 hours day care, a day included in family membership
Kids Gym with a indoor playset and climbing wall, Indoor kids pool area with slide
Rarely do I have any issues doing what I need to do
Tried Local YMCA but very busy and very restrictive on kids under 16 and Y was cheaper but not by much.0 -
local 24 hour gym.
Pros: cheap with discount through my company, I can go any time, plenty of equipment to choose from
Cons: too small for any floor workouts, busy during peak times
At home:
Pros: I can work out in my underwear. I can workout whenever I want, I don't have to worry about looking silly while practicing new workouts.
Cons: no cardio equipment, and I have 4 legged fitness coaches in my face.4 -

YMCA. It has everything.1 -
Returning to MFP after many years - in the duration I was with Gold's Gym
Pros: All the right stuff, apart from a pool
Cons: Hours were limited which meant the gym was more crowded in the evening
Now I have returned I am going back to PF because my Gold's sold out to a local NC gym company O2 fitness - and just couldn't do it
Pros: Lots of Newer equipment, gym is a good size
Cons: Not a great variety in the weight room0 -
Planet Fitness
Pros:
Cheap
Plenty of cardio
Clean
Limited Assistance if needed
Cons:
Not enough equipment for strength training

Legends Gym, Bristol UK...Pros - full of powerlifters, strongmen and bodybuilders, all the equipment you could need ever, reasonably priced compared to similar gyms, friendly. Cons - hardly any women, no rowing machine(s), cramped so I often trip over stuff or hit my head.0

I work out at home now, but in the past I used to go to Lifetime gym.
Pros:
* Ridiculous number of amenities -- free shampoo & conditioner, free makeup remover, free lotion, free mouthwash, free tampons, free q-tips, etc, etc
* Lockers with built-in locks, just need your club card to use them
* Towel service -- this was huge for me as if I go in the morning, I'll definitely want to shower before work, but definitely don't want a damp towel hanging around in my car/gym bag all day stinking up the place
* Hair dryers
* Eucalyptus steam room - I still miss these
* Nice pool
* Hot tubs
* Sauna
* Tons of equipment, including squat racks and benches. Only time it gets really cramped is during after-work hours in January
* Awesome rock walls and the equipment/supervision to use them (also has auto-belays)
* Lots of good classes
* Free childcare for like 2 hours or something if you need it (I didn't)
They also have a spa, hair salon, nail salon, cafe...though they aren't the cheapest nor the best options around.
Cons:
* Easily one of the most expensive gym chains
* Not that many locations to choose from
I would probably sign up again if I lived closer to one, but alas...1 -
Local family owned gym.
Pros:
inexpensive, no contract
24 hour access
Locations all over the city, including one within walking distance.
I love the people - we have all kinds from pro bodybuilders to stroke rehabbers, never had a bad experience with another gym goer
Very clean
Feel safe late nights even when no one is there, due to security guard in the parking lot right outside and multiple cameras
Cons:
Sometimes have to wait for squat rack or incline bench
No plyo boxes, battle ropes, or crossfit type equipment
No classes or trainers (not really a con for me, might be for other people)
No pool
Gosh their locker rooms are cold! Seriously, you could hang meat in there!
I prefer working out without headphones and they play a pop radio station constantly.
I am not a group sort of person and never thought I would join a gym, but I love my gym. I have some weight training equipment at home but it made no sense to spend the money to get what I needed to move up to the next level, when fifteen bucks a month would get me access to the gym.0 -
Equinox. It's the best.0
-
YMCA
Pros:
-Multiple branches in the area, each with a unique mix of offerings
-Kids really like climbing wall, pool, racquetball, pool tables, foosball, ping pong and air hockey
-Plenty of strength training options (although it can get tight at busy times, but the worst thing that has happened to me is that I have to move deadlifts to the end of my workout)
-Several very nice new facilities in the area
Cons:
-Expensive
-Lots of unattended middle schoolers running around with free memberships; for the most part they are fine but sometimes can be annoying; fortunately they are not allowed in the weight room0
