Getting bashed for losing too quick ????

I have lost a stone in five weeks. Six pounds first week and two pounds per week after which I believe is healthy. You always lose more in your first week. Getting bashed by a few people for losing too quick but my mfp is set up to lose two pounds per week. Surely if this wasn't healthy then it wouldn't be an option on here.

Are people messaging you and bashing you? I didn't see anything too negative in your other thread.3

Nobody is bashing you. I didn't know your stats when I said 2 pounds a week isn't healthy for everyone, which it isn't. A lot of people choose that and think it's easy going, but if they don't have as much to lose it can cause more damage. Just remember that as you lose, you will want to lower your rate of loss to preserve as much muscle as possible.8

Two pounds per week is only appropriate if you have a lot of weight to lose, like over 100 lbs. If that's not you, then yes, you are losing too quickly. Weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. Aggressive deficits when you don't have the body fat to support it can lead to all sorts of trouble: not learning sustainable habits; excessive loss of lean body mass (which will result in crap body composition, and can also cause organ damage - your heart is a muscle); hair loss; brittle nails; nutritional deficiencies...13

Not sure what post you are referring to, but as you say, mfp does put the option of losing 2 lbs per week, but what they don't say is that 2 lbs per week is acceptable if you are obese who has a lot of weight to lose, but as you lean out, 2 lbs can be detrimental to your health. I have no idea what is your height and weight, so I can't comment. However, if you have less than 100 lbs to lose, is it worth losing a lot of weight which can potential hurt your health? Not only that, you'll be eating away all your muscles too, so when you do lean out, you will most probably have a shape of a toothpick.4 -
To lose 2lbs a week you need to make a daily deficit of 1000cals.
For someone who is already healthy weight and maintains at (has TDEE of) say 1700cals, this kind of deficit is very, very unhealthy (they need to only eat 700cal a day).
For this reason you might have gotten some comments. (I'm not saying your TDEE is 1700, I don't know yours).
2lbs a week is an option here but if you maintain below 2200cals, MFP will still give you 1200cal to eat because this is the minimum healthy for females (1500 for males). So if you choose 2lbs and maintain at 1700, MFP will give you 1200 to eat which in fact corresponds to 1lbs not 2lbs per week (for a female) without telling you so. (They should really explain this in the goal section, too many people get confused).9 -
I am not sure what other threads you believe you got bashed in - and I dont know how to cross reference posters with their previous posts - but I agree with above posters - 2lb per week is not an appropriate level for everyone. Probably not for most people on here.
Just because it is an option here doesn't mean it is healthy for everyone - just like anything that offers options, some are suited to some people and not others.4 -
Ya me!! i just figured out how to search for previous posts by same poster!! (only been here 5 years - slow learner, LOL)
Anyway I now see from your previous thread that you are on 1200 calories and you have not shared your current weight or height to help people assess whether 2lb is an appropriate goal or not or 1200 is an appropriate level or not- You have just got defensive about general advice16 -
It depends on how much you have to lose. 2 lbs per week is considered OK if you have more than 75 left to lose.1

Maths suggests that if 2.1 lb is a 1% loss as per OP's other post, her current weight is ~210 lbs, so unless she is on the shorter side and aiming for 110 lbs or below, she has less than 100 lbs to lose. Ergo, 2 lbs per week is too aggressive.
OP, you would be far better served to set your weekly weight loss goal to 1 lb per week. Losing fast is not going to do you any favours. Quite aside from the things I mentioned above, there's also hormone disruption and the ensuing adaptive thermogenesis from that (see stickies at the top of this forum - 'most helpful posts' - for a couple of great threads on that), basically, your metabolism slows down. Some adaptive thermogenesis is inevitable with a prolonged deficit, but it can mitigated by opting for a sensible and sustainable rate of loss, and other neat tricks such as taking regular controlled diet breaks to bring hormones such as leptin and thyroid back up. Again, marathon, not sprint.5 -

Maybe "bashing" wasn't the best choice of words....ya think possibly?4 -
if you're losing 2 pounds a week...that's great! If someone is stuck losing slow... they have to put a good face on it..and realize at least they're headed in the right direction. Of course you shouldn't eat under 1200 calories.. but if you're getting your nutrition and losing fast. good for you..6

Seriously??? - you think those suggesting a 2lb loss rate isnt suitable for everyone are just putting a brave face on it because they are losing slowly???
Certainly isnt me - I have reached my goal and maintained it for the last 4 years - me saying 2lb isn't right for everyone isnt me putting a brave face on anything
I highly doubt that is the case for the other responders either.
