Hi all,
My name is Rita. I am a 65 yo recently retired RN. I gained 78 lbs over the last 7-8 years, largely due to harassment and bullying on the part of co-workers and management. I'll save you the details, 13 months ago, I decided to retire before I had a heart attack or stroke. I got rid of the chief cause of my stress, and now I need to get rid of my excess baggage. I had a wake up call about a week ago in the form of chest pain which might be due to my reflux, but it doesn't matter whether it was cardiac or not, if it wasn't, it will be. I have read books by Dean Ornish who has shown scientifically that heart disease can be reversed without meds or surgery. However, it involves a commitment to a radical lifestyle part of which involves a low fat vegetarian diet. Vegetarian is no problem. I have been low fat for years, but low fat is another story. Based on my statistics, I need to stay below 20 gm of fat, and 7gm sat fat. He does not have any caloric restrictions, but only eat till you are full. But no sweets. Surprisingly, my caloric intake is about what fitness pal recommended for me. I selected Fitness Pal because I can track my total fat and sat fat gm. I know this is not going to be easy, but I am convinced I need to do this. I hope I can find support to stay on my path to health.
