Oatmeal.

It seems every time I start my weight loss I always run for oatmeal for breakfast because it is one of them "healthy" foods from what I read online. Is there really anything special about it and weight loss.
Thanks

For weight loss no, it's not special, but there is some evidence that things like oatmeal can help improve cholesterol.

I like it as a filling snack or quick small meal. Tablespoon of natural peanut butter and raw honey. Ooh, don’t forget the cinnamon.

When I researched foods to help lower cholesterol, oatmeal consistently came up. I started eating it daily, and my cholesterol levels which were much too high came down to a normal level at my next bloodwork checkup. I also had lost about 50 pounds, so I don't know how much the oatmeal contributed to that. Also, oatmeal keeps me feeling full in the morning in a way that other breakfasts do not.

Oatmeal is a great source of soluble fiber and overtime will lower cholesterol levels (as mentioned above). It's also low calorie and satisfying. I add a peeled diced apple and yes cinnamon

I think it's the "filling and satifying" aspects. Kind of like a healthier comfort food. The nice thing is it's a blank canvas so you can turn it into something totally nutritious and delicious! I like steel cut oats with almond slivers, fruit and some chai or quinoa. When I need convenience I use the Think Thin Packets.

Nothing special about it. People just reach for it for weight loss because it's easy and filling.

yuck, I loathe oatmeal! I keep a couple packet in my office so when I forget breakfast or have to work through dinner, but even then it's the kind with dino eggs!

I love porridge oats and oat bran and alternate these with eggs and bacon for breakfast. I make my own compotes so have fresh fruit to go with the oats but control the sugar content. Oats keep me regular too! I thin’ I have become addicted to them...

Along with it being good for your cholesterol, being satisfying, and you can flavor it a lot of different ways, I'll add that's it's pretty inexpensive.

If you don't really enjoy it, don't torture yourself with it:-) I know my husband would rather have a bowl of Cheerios, which are also great for cholesterol, than a bowl of oatmeal.

It's good for cholesterol and has plenty of fiber.

I completely disagree with the whole 'filling and satisfying' part however because it's neither for me (unless I cook it in milk then put 200 calories of toppings on it, which kinda defeats the whole point).

I like oatmeal because it you can add fruit and yes I add cinnamon as well and helps keep me full until lunch and is a lot better than the sugary cereals that i used to eat.

Eggs are good for breakfast as well.

There's nothing special about any food for weight loss...but oats are a nutritionally sound food choice. Not everything is about weight loss.
