How to calculate calories burned?

What is a good way to calculate calories burned? I am doing the 5x5 program. Would 500cal be a decent estimate for my workouts? They last at least an hour.

Sounds a little on the high side TBH. I use an activity monitor with HR function (Garmin) and I would typically burn about 200cals in an hour. I'm not running 5x5 but still strength training (PHUL). There is a MFP 'weight training' entry under exercise, based on your own weight and exercise time, I put in my own details and it seemed pretty close. You would only reach 500cals if you were very overweight.....1

That would be high. Strength workouts are not huge calorie burners. Likely between 250 and 350 calories. There is no way to get an exact number short of a metabolic lab.1
