Ridiculous exercise calories

Help me understand. I have mfp linked to gfit which is linked to my fitness tracker, mi fit 2. I can't directly link the mi fit as far as I can see. But doing this seems to make mfp assign me insane calories. Today its 917 extra calories for 3k steps. I am set as sedentary and try to walk 5k steps a day. But every day its assigning me these calories, over 1k of them, which makes no sense. Mi fit says I've burned 83 which sounds about right. Is there some setting I've got wrong here? I would like to see those extra calories when I go above my sedentary level of walking, but I want them to be right.

This is really strange! I don't track via a tracker. But simple calculation shows walking 3K should burn about 200-250 calories (averaging 18.5 minutes/km) with a variance for your body weight.
Sounds like your walking might be tracked as something else, perhaps it's counting it as crossfit, or running at a higher pace? You might want to start manually entering your exercise until it's figured out to stay on your targets.

Thanks. It's definitely set as steps, walking. Apart from when I'm jogging or dancing, when it sets it as running. I try to add additional exercise separately, but walking was just to try and raise my activity level from sedentary to lightly active. I am very heavy, so I should be burning quite a lot, but not that much. I wish today is over 1.2k of extra calories. It should be 350 to 400 max. As I did 30 minutes of dance and 5k steps. So I don't know what it's doing.0
