It really doesn't matter: whatever keeps your intake consistently below your needs. Try out a few approaches and see what works for you.

None of that really matters for weight loss. Calories matter for weight loss and weight management in general.

I never used to eat breakfast and did 16:8 before I knew that was actually a thing...put on 40-50 Lbs over 8 years doing that...it's about calories.

Why "or"? I eat three meals per day, usually 16:8, and in a deficit whenever I need to lower my weight.

A calorie deficit is all that works for weightloss. A set of routines that feels normal and comfortable, works best for long term lifestyle change.

You have to eat at a calorie deficit to lose weight. Whether you do that eating 3 meals, 6 meals, IF, whatever doesn't matter. Whatever way makes it easiest for you to hit your calorie goal and feeling good is the best for you.

    Yes.

Those methods can lead to creating a caloric deficit.

Eating in your calorie deficit. If you want to do three meals a day or 16:8 (or even three meals in that eight hours), you can. But you still have to make sure the deficit exists.

One or the other, the result will be the same calories for calories. Just pick one that's easier for you. I did IF on a cut, because it was convenient.
