Supplementing?

Do they really work? I’m always skeptical about this because a lot of people say it just blows through your wallet and just a waste of money because they don’t work....I’m thinking then why do they sell it if it “doesn’t” work...I have so many theories in my head like the the reviews I read vs the bodybuilders I see using them... I’m thinking maybe they do work and that’s their secret? And maybe their telling everyone it’s garbage so no one can look like them and they can keep their image and continue making money lol or maybe they really don’t work?? I’ve actually taken supplements and I found that they helped and I know that there’s no such thing as magic pill or whatever but I know that these supplements can help speed up the process with good diet and exercise in my opinion idk what are your thoughts on this?

Again, examine.com will answer all your questions on this.Nothing works, except maybe creatine (depends on the person).3

Depends on the supplement. What kind of supplements are you referring to? The only supplementing I do is what vitamins and minerals I don't get through my diet.1

Protein powder "works" in the sense that it is a source of protein.
As far as the others, did you check out the website @quiksylver296 suggested?0 -
I'm not a fan of opinions when it comes to whether or not a supplement works. You know what they say about opinions. For stuff like this, I prefer to look for actual studies that were done on the supplement. Examine.com is a great way to find them, but there are plenty of others.
Have you seen actual studies that suggest supplements work, beyond the theory that bodybuilders -- those well-known gossips -- are keeping the true story from us? All of the studies I've looked at either prove there's no advantage or a very tiny, minuscule advantage that may or may not be worth chasing.0 -

Whey is just a protein supplement to help hit higher protein targets...it doesn't do anything anymore magical than that. BCAAs are just another protein supplement...if you're using whey, they're already in there. Creatine is a supplement that works well for some but not everyone. Most supplements are a waste of money...the reason they sell them is because there's always been a market for snake oil with magical benefits.2 -

That's a pretty big debate topic, especially with the etc. thrown in there. I'm not going to go down the list of every single supplement on the market.
When I'm trying to decide where to spend my money I look at two questions: What result do I want from this? Is there evidence that this product produces that result on it's own? So far I've landed on allergy meds, a multivitamin (which is iffy enough), and a vitamin D supplement as my daily regimen. Everything else I've been tempted by hasn't shown any evidence that it will do more for me than a good diet and exercise program.2
