I'm doing CBT bulimia recovery and petrified of the weight gain it scares me so much that I want to go back to how I was before but I know that was not good either. I'm consumed by these thoughts 24/7. My therapist says it's normal to feel like this I've got to give it time and get to a healthy weight. Just wondering if anyone else is or has been through the same and how to overcome it. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

Just losing weight healthily and then maintaining weight, can be daunting - I doubt myself a bit every day. Overcoming bulimia is going to be very very hard.

Personally I've found that exercise/strength training and putting on muscle weight has helped me loads. It helped me to believe that I was working off everything I ate when I was doing a bit of cardio and I could feel a lot less guilty after eating more than usual. Although its taken me months to get over the idea of putting on weight at all (I do still struggle but it's getting easier), knowing that it was muscle weight rather than just fat has got me more used to the idea. Obviously it has so many other health benefits as well as long as you are doing it safely - don't excessively exercise without enough food in your system because then you'll be losing more weight which is the opoosite of what you need and don't do too much cardio for the same reason, really try to concentrate on the strength training to build the muscle etc. I was never very active before and the idea of doing exercise was honestly the worst but I started off with just 5 minutes a night and worked my way up. Like anything, it just becomes a habit and as long as you build it up slowly it doesn't feel too difficult at all. I'm not saying it fixed everything, I still have the occasional relapse but it has got me back to a safer weight and I feel so much healthier because of it. If you do consider it maybe talk to your therapist first because I don't know about the rest of your health and you need to be sure that it would help rather than set you back but I would highly recommend it.
