After 7 years of trying to lose weight, I think it just clicked

I've been trying to lose weight for almost 7 years now, and in that time I've put on almost 50 additional pounds... many reasons over the years from medical to mental to physical, but in the end I ate more than I exerted.
I've tried weighing everything for months on end and eventually give up because it's just too much tedious work that I'm not all that into...
Well I had strep-throat this past week, and OMG, it was hell. I was unable to eat anything solid for over 48 hours, and then after that I just had some Boost! drinks and small liquid meals... but I realized something in that 48 hours without eating... I don't have to be FULL!! Holy *kitten* I've told myself that a thousand times and it's never sunk in, but this time it actually did... I am allowed to be hungry.
Until now I've been trying to lose weight without ever being hungry... and telling myself that it'll work if I'm careful.. well nobody can be THAT careful unless you're amazing for years...
Well it's been a week and a half and I'm already feeling great, eating healthier and I honestly think it's really going to work this time... I'm now finally OK with being a little hungry between meals, and skipping the odd meal and having a Boost! meal replacement has been actually quite enjoyable and delicious...
I really hope I can keep this motivation and attitude going forward to keep from sliding back into old habits...
I just had to get it out there that I'm on a new journey to lose weight and I've never been more optimistic about it!!!

wow! Isn't it amazing how something bad can turn into something good? My husband had been on insulin for 10+ years & over weight for more than that, he's a sweet aholic. He had to have all his upper teeth pulled & lived mostly on home made smoothies, started loosing wt, eventually got off insulin & kept going after he got his dentures. It's been over a year & he's still doing good. Congratulations to you1

I feel you 100% with the 'I don't have to be full' thing - in fact, I can even be **gasp** hungry and not die! Who'da thunk it?? This all happened after a 3 day bout with terrible influenza B. What a blessing in disguise hey? I lost about 1.5 kg just lying in bed for 2 days and never really re-gained the stomach capacity to eat the way I did prior.
Not only that - not being full of food all the time actually makes you physically feel good! I'm sure what they say about sugar causing inflammation is true because just not being full from breads and chocolates has resulted in my joints feeling so much better.
Totally what kicked it off for me too - now I'm just trying to keep up the momentum! Counting cals helps - and I shudder to think what my intake was prior to this!!
Great post - really resonated with me!
