I need to lose weight, I mean weight...I am 5'5 and 173lbs ( the heaviest I ever been because of stress with school) but I find myself very uncomfortable with this weight...When I set my goal it gives me 1200 calories a day which I find that's low for me. I know everyone is different but this goes out for the people who weigh in their 170s and lost weight, how many calories they have a day and what kind of workout they done?

Pick a lower weightloss rate, and you get more calories.0

You can reasonably expect to lose weight at 0.5-1lbs per week at your current weight. If you're getting 1200 that's because you've chosen a higher rate and it's bottomed out at 1200 which is the minimum recommendation for women.
With your stats at sedentary and without exercise that should give you around 1400 (1lb)-1650(0.5lbs) calories, you should then be eating at least a portion of your exercise calories back.1 -
As recommended above, you should perhaps change your activity level from "sedentary" to "lightly active", and re-set your rate of loss from 2 pounds a week (if that's what you chose) down to no more than 1 pound per week. I am 5'6" and started at the exact same 173 as you have. I unfortunately lost enough weight to reach my goal but did it on 1200 calories a day plus 50-75% of my earned exercise calories. Despite lifting weights, I lost too much muscle mass in addition to fat. The end result is my arms look wrinkly! So slow down your rate of loss and you should achieve the results you want!2
